So after a very long time I had a complete run from Boston to Providence with this diesel rumbler ... and I have noticed that the safety systems arent nearly as "aggressive" as in other locos like ACS 64 or Acela In those, if you dont apply a certain % of brake application and such (plus you have to acknowledge stuff), bam, beeping barrage and later penalty brake application here, the display shows stuff, you get some beeps and usually a pretty low % of brake application is sufficient... and not many beeps I mean, it is not like I am trying to get a penalty brake on purpose, but is it just me that in those electric locos you get a bigger sense of urgency upon being notified to slow down at a speed reduction (ACSES usually gives MAS, so it is mostly ATC doing the limiting in this loco)? What are your impressions on this?
Back when it originally released you had the put the brake into suppression just like the others but this was changed somewhere along the way. I think it’s because unlike the ACS 64 or the Acela suppression in the F40 is basically full service braking meaning you slow down way too much sometimes.
here suppression is basically full application... so I guess as long as it detects any braking with automatic brakes it doesnt punish you, right?
I remember Matt saying it was looking for at least 66% brake application. On the ACS-64, suppression is in that position, while on the MBTA stock, simply applying 66% or more brake was enough.
I've never been in an F40PH to see how much braking force you actually have to apply to satisfy the safety systems. In Amtrak locomotives, there's an actual notch for Suppression which is much less braking force than Service or Full Service. On the MBTA stock in game, it appears that Service comes before Suppression. I know the Amtrak stuff is correct, but I cannot confirm that the MBTA stuff is correct. When in doubt, use your brake gauges. I believe a reduction to 94PSI is equal to Suppression? I usually do Service 50% in game.
Isn’t there also a suppression indicator that lights up in the F40? I have to try it out when I get home but I feel like I typically brake until the indicator lights up and I’m good. I forget what the psi is… I’m due to replay that route again (I have too many routes) Anyway the indicator I think is on that safety systems panel and says “suppression”… unless I’m mixed up with something else
I'm not sure. I barely play the actual game anymore since I spend so much time in the editor. Let me know what you find
Welp it doesn’t say “suppression” on any of the indicators, so I was wrong on that I noticed 99 PSI (or 51%) gives you a yellow “brake apply” indication on the little screen above the rear headlight switch Haven’t been able to find out if 99 PSI is equal to suppression yet. Driving #807 and I’ve made it to Mansfield without getting having a reason to use suppression yet, go figure lol Feels good to be back in the F40 though, I love these things
I know about those around 60% on ACS and such, but here, it looked like it was enough to just acknowledge and slowly brake into the new limit, with no additional beeps... I even remember when braking from 80 to 45 when approaching some station that I got some beeps acknowledged that, put like 30% auto brake and since the brakes are quite strong (plus the EP brake apparently does its thing), I got to 45 pretty quickly anyway and without penalty will try and do a run or two today or soonish to check the behavior wont be trying to get penalty brakes, but will try braking as casually as possible and see if it gets me into trouble ... atm the safety stuff in this loco seems to be as laidback as AWS on most units in-game, which is kinda weird since ATC/ACSES combo is usually a hysterical beeping machine
