I'm just curious, would people want to drive fictional trains? Of course assuming that a fictional loco would have a somewhat unique design that would determine it's driving characteristics, operation procedures and other quirks that will make driving it a somewhat interesting experience. To be fair I have no idea what project I want to get onto except for that fact that it's supposed to be fictional and heavily art-directed.
Cool. What is your base idea? I would like to go for an electric shunter (the kind with single pantograph on the roof) with DC engines and really old-school electronics in the cab.
A steeplecab like this one ?! Really cool idea, good luck I'll go with something conceptual, something that never left the drawing board... probably a diesel ( more flexibility to operate )... with an iconic bodywork; out of Jules Verne's novels... decorated & lined with precious metals & ornaments creating a memorable sight for bystanders. Possibly something huge ( connected A-B-C units if that turns out to be the case ). And of course, it'll bear my name & the year of my birth as it's road number Will definitely take a few years to get somewhere on this... Have to settle some office work at the moment so I'm not in any mood to rush it. Also, I need to learn UE tools to get the physics in simugraph and gather suitable sound recordings before importing it in TSW. A long-term project as it seems right now
No, not that. I was thinking something closer to the Czech class 111. Maybe a bit shorther with only two axles, slightly changed design, very different internals and a dashboard with little to no automation. Of course PZB/LZB support because where else would I want to drive it in the TSW world. Also if I were you, I think I would go with full-on Steam propulsion. Internal engineering is half the fun and you can end up with something very unique in this case because after all, driving style comes from the internal design.
Why not a steam engine with an electric boiler . Maybe something a little more massive than an SBB E 3/3 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric-steam_locomotive http://www.douglas-self.com/MUSEUM/LOCOLOCO/swisselec/swisselc.htm
That's indeed a very cool piece of history. I would have thought that electricity was merely used to reduce the multi-hour waiting times to get the steam generation up but doing all of the heating that way is cool as well.
