After about a quarter of a year of waiting, we finally have PlayStation add-ons on sale again. Tons of good DLCs are heavily discounted. Might pick up Fife Circle considering I told myself I’d buy it when they add the Leven branch and it’s never been cheaper than now. Hopefully we’ll get into the usual rhythm of about 1-2 TSW sales per month on PlayStation again now. Would love to pick up the Goblin line to have some more things to do on WCML, or Luzern-Sursee considering I was at Lake Constance in the summer and saw all the Swiss trains
I’ve been waiting for a good while for Maintalbahn to come on sale and it’s at a whopping 80% off so bagged myself a fine little route for a fiver. Can’t really ask for more than that.
I’ve got all my DLC (nearly 100) on Xbox but have the free base game of TSW5 on PS5, so tempted to pick up Maintalbahn for a fiver given I don’t have it on Xbox and sales are rarer than hens teeth. Given I’ll be missing any potential layering, is the route “as is” worth a fiver?
Is Maintalbahn worth a fiver if you only have a very casual interest in German content? I know it's next to nothing but there's a lot of Black Friday sales on and that £5 could be spent on something else. I own quite a few German routes however there's only one or two I've played for more than two hours. So I'm only interested in getting it if it's considered one of the better ones.
I was hoping to see Glossop on sale...although I might hold out for the Alan Thomson route, which hopefully has a re-mastered version of Piccadilly.
So true. I’ve been waiting to get my hands on it in a sale for the 218 timetable. Didn’t expect the enormous 80% (not that I’m complaining!) so I finally picked it up. As said above, I only just picked it up, so I can’t comment on the route yet, but there are two things I’d like to say as food for thought: As you said, the 80% discount almost gives it away for free. Years back, I picked up ECW in a similar sale despite having little interest in commuter-type routes but that was one of the best decisions I made in TSW. So I’d take the risk here with this sort of discount. If you have the 218, the route has its own new timetable for her. So, you’ll have more gameplay for her apart from the somewhat monotonous runs on HBK and without having to think of your own (freeroam) gameplay. Obviously, the point is mood if you neither have the 218 nor any interest in her.
Does the Birmingham cross city line include the Lickey incline? And is the Arschaffenberg - Gemüden any good? Maiintalhbahn looked rather flat and straight. Chur-Arosa looks interesting, but it's not in the sale.
Was thinking the Birmingham cross city must have the lickey, unless the route stops at the bottom of the incline lol . Yes to all four?
Lickey is the hill just before Bromsgrove right? When travelling from BHM? If so, it's definitely included. Quite fun trying to slow for Bromsgrove while at (IIRC) 3.3ish% downward gradient. I don't have the other 3 routes you listed so cannot comment.
Maintalbahn, is far from DTGs best work. But it’s cheap and and worth picking up, especially if you have the BR218. Arosa - Chur - Definitely wait for a sale. It was Rivet Games first route and was awful on release. It’s now somewhat improved. However, the scenery only looks good in the snow. In summer it looks very basic and nowhere near as good as some of the more recent routes.
The only one I can comment on here is Main Spessart Bahn (Aschaffenburg - Gemünden). It’s a solid route with good length, OK scenery and some interesting bits like the Schwarzkopftunnel which is no longer used nowadays. Tons of gradients and curves too! That being said, the route does show its age. The rolling stock definitely isn’t unique since it was re-used many times since then, the timetable is missing some much-requested ICE services and fails to utilize the potential of newer rolling stock as layers in general. And the scenery is really just ok like many of the routes that came out half a decade ago, nothing more (but also nothing less). The rolling stock from this route is layered onto a few other older German DLCs. I believe Köln-Aachen and Hauptstrecke Rhein-Ruhr are part of that list, but don’t take my word for it. Overall, the route isn’t anything special, but it’s also not bad at all. If it’s heavily discounted (in the -50% range), I’d recommend it.
Agreed. MSB was fantastic back in the day but didn’t age all that well. The highlight is still the route itself in its now bygone state with the famous Spessartrampe. The rolling stock is completely outdated nowadays though. You can fix the locos via substitution but that doesn’t change the outdated freight cars. It’s probably a route for those interested in the historical side of things by now simply because it’s a kind of virtual time capsule. That and MSB was the route for layering before DRA. If you have any of the older routes (like HRR, RRO, and SKA), I feel MSB is almost obligatory for the layers it provides. Those routes feel quite dead without MSB.
Hi Lamplight Are you an ex pat? I hope the MSB doesn't have too many bugs. With TSW5 on PS4 PRO I was trying a few timetables in Nahverkehr Dresden earlier, I think the routr came with TSW3. What I saw of the route looked ok, but there were alot of blue screen crashes, sometimes before the service loaded. And also around Dresden. I reduced the layers but that didn't seem to help. Shame it's so buggy. Edit: seems better with TSW4
I got a PS5 a couple months ago started into TSW on it by downloading the free TSW5 starter and bought SPG got HSC yest for 15.99 cajon is 15.99 on sale too may add that .I play on XBseries X but starting to add some US freight routes to start to PS5
I'm pretty disappointed with the black Friday sale. I've had 6 routes on my wishlist for a long while now. I expected 2 or 3 to be on sale, but it was only Fife Circle for me. I hope there will be another sale with Christmas that will have some more recent routes on sale.
I dont have BCC MSB is super dated MTB feels also quite dated (even its not) but would give it a go if significant reduced in price. Chur - Arosa ? Big No
Really into US routes Cane creek, bairstow and horseshoe in sale, was hoping the American mega route pack was in the sale but hopefully in the Christmas sale later in December as it's very good value as has Cajun, Cane creek and sherman hill plus the F7 and SD70
It's nice route about 35 miles long grades are not too steep you get two different engines with it there's a variety of different wagons i cant remember if anything layers into it
HSC is good have Johnstown to Altoona plus the Southfork branch to Windber mine for loading coal trains it has a steep gradient for some challenge also a coal mine on a short branch at portage. Get NS ES44 and a GP38 2 and with free roam can run other power off US routes i got NS skin SD70ace heritage off creators club to add more personal playability
Hey, the BR 187 is 60% off. Fantastic AI loco. Great noise. Yay! Now seriously: IMHO Main-Spessart Bahn is still worth it, despite the age. Some cool freight scenarios to drive there. And other varieties. I like to go back to the route everynowandthen.
If you want an alpine route, bernina line is miles better than chur-arosa, and is only an extra £5. not sure if this is in the sale, but i wouldn’t really recommend either route full price, even though bernina is lovely scenery-wise, it’s not worth £30.
