This popped up on my FB feed of a screenshot that I took of the Flying Scotsman doing 96 MPH from November 2010. 149708_110246099043256_7419508_n.jpg

Sorry for bringing another old thread back to the top - but hopefully it is relevant to my question (don't want to be accused of creating a new thread for one the already exists)

Have been having a dabble at driving a steam train, and I too have managed to get the Flying Scotsman up to 96mph on the flat ECML between Peterborough-Kings Cross.

Is there a way, by better driving on my part, to get to the magic 100mph? (without losing carriages etc from the consist, or go down a steep hill etc)

I'm trying to keep the boiler pressure around the 240 PSI, and use the regulator and water flow to try and stop the pressure building so the emergency valve releases... but they still do keep climbing and hitting the 248PSI (which causes the valve release).

Is there another valve I should be releasing to stop the pressure reaching the 248PSI? (if so what is the keyboard command)

(If I do manage to get 100mph - i too will try and share a screen shot!)
