I can't seem to tow the flying scotsman safely. So I assume as the scotsman has air brakes, you couple it to the 66 for example, the brakes in the scotsman are in shutdown, so the 66 would have control over the brakes? But no it won't move!

So I have to release the brakes in the scotsman and open the large injector for the brakes to release. This in turn Makes the brakes on the scotsman and all 12 carriages inoperative.
So I can get the train moving but stopping is sketchy!

I must be doing something wrong?

Scotsman is vac brakes I believe, try towing it with a BR blue loco as most of those have a brake selector

It has dual brakes, so it should have no problem being towed by an air braked vehicle.

Question to OP: Are you towing just the loco or coaches as well?

What brakes are the coaches using?

if the coaches are air braked don’t touch the injector, else you have just built a vacuum you will need to get rid of by opening valves/pulling cords.

if the coaches are vac braked, then you’ve done the right thing opening the injector, but your loco will need to control vac brakes

Scotsman can be either air or vac braked

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm trying to tow the scotsman with the coaches. I've tried using a number of locos using vac and air.
From what I've been reading the flying scotsman should be air braked, also the mk2 coaches are air braked.
The only coach I can see that is dual braked is the bg coach behind the scotsman.

I would imagine the train should be setup for air brakes when spawned.
I just tried a class 31 and with the braking mode in air freight or passenger the brakes won't release.

The only way to get the brakes to release is opening the large injector. Which would lead me to believe the trains using vac brakes.
When I drive this way the only braking I have is the loco only.
    I think it's broken.

I think the Flying Scotsman has formations with both Mk1 (vacuum braked) and Mk2a (air braked) coaches

A 66 would only be able to control the brakes of the Scotsman + Mk2a formation

That's the formation I was trying earlier with the mk2's. I will try again later.

I think you have to manually put the brakes on scotsman in release

I've figured it out, well I'm yet to try this with other locos/formations. Using the class 37 epx, before coupling/connecting brake hoses. Make sure the 37 brakes are in shutdown! Hey presto, managed to rescue the flying scotsman.
