Is it just me or does fog really hurt performance? Did a sehs Tgv run on a clear day @60fps all the way. then another run in the fog @30fps (mostly)
Pretty much, it's a MASSIVE performance hit right now. It's almost like they never once during the process tested anything with the weather switched on.
On the German route I was getting between 15-25 fps. I get better with cyberpunk @4k with raytracing.
I would note with regards to Cyberpunk, I drop below 60 when I bump that game's volumetric fog from medium to high. One does wonder why TSW3's is causing such a hit.
Yeah the fog gets me on Kassel Wurzburg. My runs will usually start at around 80-100 and drop to 30 once the fog rolls in.
80-100 FPS?!!! Do you have a NASA grade computer? Would love to know your specs to get that. Even Sam with his GTX3090 doesn't get that.
Probably quite achievable with the right settings and a current gen graphics card. I run several games at around 120-140 with their graphics maxed, and even CP77 with everything on high and 1440p at around 70. On a £960 laptop. I imagine I could get TSW3 running in that range in 1080p mode with a few settings dialled down.
I'm not sure the fog in tsw is volumetric? I thought volumetric was like where you have patches of fog, so the volume of the fog changes as you pass thru it. With Cyberpunk I have everything on ultra. Normally get around 50-60fps if I turn on rt then I have to use dlss favouring quality to get around 35fps.
At 1080 I get high frame rates with everything on ultra (without fog) that's with a 3070 and i5 12600kf although the i5 is locked at 5ghz.
I'm running a 1080 ti, 9900kf, 32 gb ram, with the game on a 1 tb nvme ssd, running maximum settings 120% screen percentage. I also only play at 1080p so that might be part of the reason I get such high FPS.
FPS>resolution any day of the week. For a happy medium I will continue to recommend DTG looking into incorporating FSR 2.0, as it's open-source and compatible with any graphics card, including the ones in the consoles.
It would seem the problem was my own doing. When I updated my bios the other day it re enabled my e cores! E cores = poor gaming performance.
