I'm watching the stream now with the Bakerloo line running on the PS4 Pro and noticed that when Matt turned the HUD off, the FPS appeared to jump up to a (locked?) 60fps.

When he reactivated the HUD, the FPS dropped to mid 40s. That seems like an expensive HUD to me!

I'm hoping they'll show the ICE running on the PS4 as I felt the Xbox version showed a lot of judder. On that route, the FPS meter was constantly flashing yellow, presumably when the FPS dropped into the 20s. There were also occasional flashes of red on the counter which may have coincided with the next tile being loaded.

I guess I'll be running sans HUD for maximum FPS or hope that Dovetail can further optimise the HUD and improve on what is causing the sizeable FPS drop.

Further to the above, now watching the overland section running on the PS4 Pro and the amount of judder/hiccups is arguably worse than any route I've ever run on TSW 2020. The FPS counter is regularly yellow. If this is the Pro, I wonder how the standard PS4 will perform.

I'm leaning towards waiting and hoping the next generation consoles will be able to do the game justice or maybe I should just finally get around to upgrading my gaming pc.

Yes, I noticed that... That's bad, even worse than TSW 2020. I'm very disappointed.

Does streaming while playing harm the performance at all? I would have thought it would because that will be using up some cpu and gpu from the PS4, so maybe that makes it not perform as well. I’m thinking it will be better if you’re just playing at home.

I'm pretty sure Matt was streaming via a HDMI capture hence him talking about the capture card contrast. I.e he wasn't streaming direct from the PS4 so there would have been no additional load.

Ah okay. I missed the start of the stream and to be honest I don’t really know how these things work. Thanks.

...nice catch on this one. I went back to the stream video just now and checked the fps counter. The frame rates I saw with HUD on were in the range of 41-44 fps in tunnels or pulling into underground stations- but this range changed to 50-56 fps with the HUD off while in a tunnel. So yeah, the HUD itself seems to be impacting performance of the new sim... far too much impact if you ask me.
