Sprawling rails, stations galore & services in all directions – welcome to the S-Bahn Rhein-Main, is out now for Train Sim World 5!

Approximate release times: 1000 BST PlayStation & Xbox, 1600 BST Epic Games, 1800 BST Steam on Tuesday 20th May

Note: Frankfurt S-Bahn will release on PC and Gen 9 console platforms only (Xbox Series S|X & PS5).

    Frankfurt S-Bahn: S1, S8 & S9

Frankfurt S-Bahn cover three distinct lines as part of Frankfurt’s S-Bahn network and introduces the DB BR 430 for the first time. Additional rolling stock and plentiful layers from previous Train Sim World Add-ons also feature, making for a sprawling route with many stations and lots of traffic.

    The Route
    [IMG]

As the title of the Add-on suggests, there are three lines that form part of this route.
    These are:
    • S1: Frankfurt to Wiesbaden via Frankfurt Höscht
    • S8: Frankfurt to Wiesbaden via Flughafen & Mainz Hbf
    • S9: Frankfurt to Wiesbaden Flughafen & Mainz-Kastel

The route is set prior to the opening of Frankfurt Gateway Gardens, offering the chance to traverse over the original airport approach which no longer exists.

ICE services running across the route from Frankfurt to Wiesbaden via Flughafen Fernbahnhof will be available for players with Train Sim World 5’s core Frankfurt – Fulda route. Flughafen Fernbahnhof mostly serves long-distance trains, which is uncommon in Germany. It has an average of one ICE every 9 minutes during peak times - equating to around 160 ICE stops every day.

The addition of the long-distance airport station to the route was done so following player feedback.
Additionally, to support this, the freight loop in Mainz will now also be in the route, enabling trains to enter Mainz from the north after coming from Frankfurt.

    The Trains
    DB BR 430 [NEW]

New to Frankfurt S-Bahn is the hard-working DB BR 430 EMU, which operates the bulk of traffic on the S1, S8 and S9 lines. This 4-car, high-capacity EMU has been in full operation on the S-Bahn Rhein-Main since their introduction a little over a decade ago.

The design is reminiscent of the DB BR 422, although with more modern fittings and tweaks befitting of a busy network such as Frankfurt. The 430s replaced the much-lamented DB BR 420 and expanded the size of the fleet to offer a total of 9 trains an hour in each direction, spread across all 3 lines, with up to 12-car formations.

Audio was sourced courtesy of a recording trip and the interior is fitted with modern PIS in the passenger area and digital screens in the cab.

    DB BR 423
    [IMG]

Supplementing the BR 430 is the DB BR 423, a staple EMU for S-Bahn networks across Germany.
The version included with Frankfurt S-Bahn will feature a new interior to represent the S-Bahn Rhein-Main variant, as well as some physics upgrades. The BR 423 fleet is certainly no stranger to the Wiesbaden lines, although spends a majority of its time serving other destinations, making it a key part of the scene around Frankfurt Hbf.

    DB BR 143 + Dostos
    [IMG]

Providing a regional touch is the DB BR 143 and Dosto combination, which runs RB services out of Wiesbaden.

    Additional Service layers
    Bundle available on Steam
    [IMG]

The action takes place over a full 24-hour timetable, with services running throughout and providing gameplay at all times of day. The new DB BR 430 will operate on the many hundreds of services that keep the commuters of Hesse on the move.

The addition of the Frankfurt Airport long-distance station opens up new types of gameplay for players with additional content in their collection.

AI-only traffic such as ICE and freight will also suitably layer in across the route, with freight operating both locally and end-to-end. RE and RB traffic also features as AI, utilising the timetable from Frankfurt – Fulda and trains from other route Add-ons such as Maintalbahn for the DB BR 642.

The full list of Add-ons that layer services into Frankfurt S-Bahn is as follows:
    Playable and AI services:
    • Kassel-Würzburg
    • Frankfurt-Fulda
    • DB BR 101 loco Add-on
    • Bremen-Oldenburg
    • Maintalbahn
    • Ruhr Sieg Nord and DB BR 363 loco Add-on
The BR 628 from Niddertalbahn will also feature as AI traffic.

Freight services utilising Frankfurt-Fulda's DB BR 193 Vectron will haul stock layered from S-Bahn Vorarlberg (Laaers), Dresden-Riesa (Zacns), Kassel-Würzburg (VTG Eanos) as well as Sggmrss and Habbiins wagons.

For players that own all the relevant content, the full timetable provides the busiest experience ever seen in a German route Add-on, with approximately 1,000 services included.

    Frankfurt S-Bahn Layers Bundle
You can save on a selection of these layers in the Frankfurt S-Bahn Layer Bundle available on Steam from launch at approximately 1800 BST on Tuesday 20th May. This bundle does not include Frankfurt S-Bahn itself.

    Timetable variants across platforms
    [IMG]

In order to provide a suitable experience across all platforms, two variants of the Frankfurt S-Bahn timetable have been developed, a Standard and a Full version.

The following platforms will see different options available to choose from:
    • PS5 and Xbox Series S/X
      • Standard timetable
      • Steam and Epic Games
        • Full timetable with all additional layers
The standard timetable features just over 600 playable services in total. These are formed from the three included trains (430, 423 and 143 + Dostos) and playable service layers for the DB BR 411 ICE-T for those with Frankfurt-Fulda.

The standard timetable will also be available to Steam and Epic players in addition to the full timetable.

Further down the Tracks: DB BR 420
    [IMG]

In the March 2025 Roadmap, we re-announced the upcoming DB BR 420 Loco from the TSG team, helping support gameplay on the upcoming Frankfurt S-Bahn route.

You can read some more details in the April 2025 Roadmap. We’ll be sure to check back with the TSG team in a later Roadmap to provide an update on progress.

Note: when complete, the DB BR 420 loco Add-on will also release on PC and Gen 9 console platforms only (Xbox Series S|X & PS5).

    Additional Gameplay
With Free Roam, players can explore the multiple paths along each line in their favourite traction.

There’ll also be Route Hopping with Frankfurt – Fulda (at Frankfurt am Main Hbf) and with Linke Rheinstrecke at (Mainz Hbf). For players with these routes and Schnellfahrstrecke Kassel-Würzburg, a monumental 320km journey awaits between Koblenz and Kassel with three hopping points across four route Add-ons!

    Mastery Challenges:

Mastery on Frankfurt S-Bahn unlocks the new in-game Posters for the route that we introduced to selected Train Sim World 5 route Add-ons (Tier 1) and a Scenery Tile at Wiesbaden.

The Scenery Tile represents the popular Festivals that take place, with music included during both day and nighttime for those who choose the toggle the Scenery Tile on.

Complete timetable services and Scenarios or drive a pre-set number of kilometers to unlock them!

Unless the console releases throw up any major issues, 99% certain of grabbing this later when it (finally) opens up on Steam. Oh for a preload.

Edit/PS: dtg_jan , can someone create the thread in the Feedback Forum now the game is live. Already one comment popped up in GD about trophies which ought to be in the dedicates thread.

...If that full timetable ever comes for consoles.

    Honestly...
Unless they are able to pull a miracle on memory management this isn't going to happen. So many struggles already with blurry textures on other Routes.
I see it now on the new timetable for Köln - Aachen they accidentally released on Xbox.
It's not really usable...always blurry textures after 5 - 10 min driving ..and half of the time it crashes later on. ( Gen 9 Xbox Series X )

Please update the timetable Version for consoles.. its sadly waay to empty the way it is and the possible options seem quite.. frustrating. For the price it has its a big loss of money in my opinion. the unique scenery and poi's are very breathtaking its a great dlc as it is its no hate i just think this little tweak could change much.
I know u reduced it due to performance issues from the consoles so maybe add just a little more and try to put in as many as you can i think i and many others would thank you big time.
    Greetings

I saw it on BAs stream for the Xbox series X, The performance is good and no blurry textures at all.

If your don't mind the reduced timetable, or people simply don't know about it, it's seems to be a good experience for what you get.

Once you are aware of what you are missing out, compared to the full, enchanted, special...whatever wording timetable on PC builds, the opinion may differ.

    The thing is....
A lot of console players actually don't read or care about forums, discords, watching YouTube. They just buy and play the game " as advertised " and are happy with it. For those it's a good DLC with an appropriate performance and experience.

Might be worth watching preview stream. There's been significant detail throughout release process about this.

    Choice a - reduced timetable
    Choice b - game crashing

    Consoles don't have the horsepower

Exactly. German routes have always been the best regarding consistency since the very start of TSW because of their busy timetables and large stations with lots of loco variation and service types - but Frankfurt S-Bahn on console is just so disappointing because it's none of this and is a very large step backwards - why choose to have such a route which is so bias towards PC; even if this is just a one-off, it still leaves a bad impression from many console players. TSW wouldn't even be a thing without console, which also happens to be the significant portion of the playerbase...

It's their wording for that has annoyed me as well, it's not a "Standard Timetable" for console users, it's a reduced Timetable.

That is shown by the wording for the PC Timetable as "Full timetable".

Just tell it how it is DTG.
Oh and Console users should absolutely have this reduced in price to reflect the reduced timetable.

Yeah, they just had to get yet another dig in at console players, to what, make themselves feel better?

It's hard to reconcile that snarky attitude in the wording with what seemed to be an honest attempt at engaging the console playerbase since the initial ugliness of the reveal of the reduced timetable.

Does one hand at DTG not know what the other is doing? Would explain a lot tbh...

Yes, I agree. Using the word " standard " doesn't quite convey what's being offered if you compare it to " ful! ", unless you read the entire article.

As a PC player, I'm happy to pay for the complete timetable, but I can understand if console players want to pass, at least until it's fixed. It's not a great look.

Remember the days when the different generations, or console vs PC versions of a game, like the 8-bit vs 16-bit console generation, or early 32-bit systems' console ports of big PC games, were developed by different teams, as completely independent productions which were scaled to the power of the different machines?

I wonder if some people would prefer getting something put together by the TSW VR team directly for lower power systems as "TSW7" for console, or if they prefer a cut-down version of the full PC TSW experience...

"Reduced" is the only accurate word though, most routes come with a full accurate timetable as standard, anything less than that is reduced.

Just think - it could be worse, you could be experiencing the DTG side of that launch day time gap, experiencing the slowly dawning horror from the response to the console versions of whichever expansion you just dropped that day, of just how many serious bugs made it into the build you pushed.

Is the Full timetable included in the XBOX Store PC release, or are those of us who started playing on game pass getting the reduced timetable only even on PC?

Your wording makes it look like we've been conned, or you would've just said that PC gets the full timetable.

I'm a customer since TSW2 and bought every TSW since.
In many ways this route - would - be an instant buy for me and I was VERY much looking forward to it.
BUT being on PS5 (Pro) I sadly have to skip this route.
    Why?
I have almost all German DLCs, sometimes not even for driving a loco DLC, but for having LOTS of variety on my routes.
Thanks to all DLCs I own, this makes many routes SO MUCH more fun. Seeing all the different trains in a station like Dresden or Frankfurt is what make the routes come to life!
Preview stream showed that console version is missing all of the rolling stock layers. It looked sad and empty and all of the money I spent to have the most variety and diversity in trains / locos possible on any given route is GONE on this route with taking (nearly) ALL layers away from console players.

And NO, I am not accepting the excuses of consoles not being able to handle this.
It is a VERY old story of DTG being really lazy / poor at optimizing their code.
Every iteration of TSW is plagued by the same bugs (or new ones) and many get not only never solved, but simply transferred to the next iteration of TSW.
You really NEED to optimize your code and thus performance!
It has gone on for too long now and more and more problems arise from this!
And now console players should pay the price? NO!

So, although I love the route and would really instantly buy it, I CANNOT accept the attitude anymore.
It is clear the priority is making regular DLCs and thus never having enough time / resources to FINALLY fix the many issues of TSW.
I am certain the TSW6 is around the corner and - of course - it will not fix any of the underlying general issues of the game.
It will just be more yet again of the same.
    Rinse and repeat.
This is also the reason I have barely written anything here. It seems in vain as this is a company decision that will only change, when it hurts financially.
So until I see a substantial change from DTG, I also won't buy any soon to be announced TSW6.

I just bought the addon on ps5. I instantly regret it. I drove an ice service and it was lifeless. I can count on one hand how many train i saw during the jorney. I nearly have all the addons and i cant use it. Even if i had the full timetable i couldnt use one of my favourite loco the expert 101. My other favourite loco is the vectron. Other than that i use pzb. I had a tonn of emergency brake for no reason. And sifa isnt working. I have to turn it on and off to work. I regret buying this addon...

And what's to say they won't do the same trick in the future.

Let's say for example, they do London Waterloo-Southampton. It's an intensive route with trains by the hundreds going up and down plus freight trains, other TOCs etc etc.

What if DTG decide that it's too hard to do a full timetable for Console users so PC will get a full timetable of 1000 services and Console users get 500 but both are charged £30 for it.

The problem isnt just the horse Power its bad developing and not enough experience in releasing content for consoles. Look at triple a game that have graph and performance this game couldn't even dream of so.. they just need to get to work and fix all the broken stuff like lags when stopping.

Oh, the reduced timetable is now a standard one. Nice try, but won't catch me. I pay full price, I want full experience. If that's not delivered, it will stay a NO, no matter what you call it. And that's very disappointing, was really hyped for that route with all that has been promised.

I respect console users who buy this route at full price, of course, everyone can do what they want with their money.
But in my opinion this is a mistake, I think DTG should be given a wake up call and a message loud and clear that we will not accept being treated as second class gamers.

for those who have this DLC already - is BR 143 version for this route fixed? cos 143 and 112 (some still report also 114) had e-brake issues

They have, if the developer can use it right. It's like with the performance of a racecar on the racetrack. Even with a underpowered car the better driver can win the race.

My boss just said times were bad so he had to "normalize" my salary. Thankfully he did not "reduce" it.

Your boss should be the role model.

The backlash isn't over the type of route/network, when done well these network releases can be good routes (The updated Cathcart route being a fine example).

The backlash is from console players because they're a bit peeved about paying the same price as PC players when the PC version has a much busier timetable.

I've not tried it out yet but will be adding my thoughts later once I've had a chance.

Reduce the cost for console players please, after all we are approx. 400 services short!

For me, as a console gamer, it's understandable that only Gen 9 will be supported from now on. At some point, the beard will wear off.

But then charging full price for a reduced schedule isn't okay! Or should I buy a PS5 Pro separately? Will it run smoothly on that?

It would have been fairer to give the consoles both schedules, albeit with the risk of errors and crashes. This solution has been tried before.

If this continues with the upcoming DLC, I won't make any more one-day purchases and will wait for the PS6. Maybe things will run a little better then...

so, initial thoughts, having done a run with 430 on an S9 service, 12cars and a BR101 in sandwich formation... first, the 430, really neat EMU, digging the more modern design, quite nimble and all, caught some rolling resistance weirdness where it seemed to even slow a bit down on idle on a 0.6% descent, but otherwise nice machine, the frequency of stops just right not to be annoying... loved the frequent speed and track changes, also 12cars is magnificent on camera 8 fly-bys

second, BR101 would be nice if it came already with ZDS BR120 set up so I wouldnt have to teleport between cabs, but well, it was really cool run, even with a brief LZB section where I managed to get up to 200 kph shortly before having to slow down... and those who follow my comments know I love me some LZB/AFB exit procedure challenge, so I got it :) ... the only gripe with this was that the whole run ended too soon, and the bug introduced with new Koln Aachen timetable (aka getting kinda half the points when under LZB) has also found its way in here

havent tried 143 yet, but I will since I am curious if the e-braking is in playable state :D

so far worth the money... oh, as for performance, well, my machine is almost 8yrs old, i7-6700K and GeForce 1080 GTX 8GB, which would already struggle with Frankfurt Fulda (the Frankfurt Hbf to Sud section especially) managed kinda well I guess, not much worse than FTF... but it wasnt sth I wasnt prepared to deal with, and once I got outside the main tangle of tracks, it got better... I mean, still not perfect FPS, but it wasnt anything that would make me quit the run... I actually thought the performance was pretty good considering my old PC :)

of course I will do more runs on other S-Bahn lines, but so far this product is approved :D (also loving bridges, overpasses etc. and I got tons of it here)
