Sorry to make two posts in the same day regarding something with free roam but I had something else come up that I wanted to see if it was an issue. When creating my path in free roam, in this case Los Angeles-Lancaster on Antelope Valley, I set the path to go the whole route and wanted to add a few “go via location” waypoints to the path, as I did on a trip from Lancaster-Los Angeles. I added one to go through the siding track at Newhall station, which it let me, but when I tried to add a second go-via location to go through the siding at Vista Canyon as well, I keep getting the “unreachable location” error message. How is a commonly used siding track an unreachable location? Especially if you do you path in segments, it will let you select the siding so it’s clearly not an issue with it actually being some unreachable track. So what’s the deal with this? Why is it only letting me set one go-via location and then everything else, regardless of where it is, is an “unreachable location.” ?

Anyone have an idea on this? Not a super big deal but just curious what the deal is.

I don’t know how the free roam system works out available paths but have seen some odd behaviour where it won’t allow you to go to obviously reachable track. My main issue was trying to stay on one line and not get diverted off it in GWE. I just would not let me go via the same line I was already on, despite it being the most direct and logical route and the route it should have given me in the first place.

Probably some tracks are marked as being unidirectional. I think there was a discussion about Clinchfield routing, it's not realistic, but a limitation of the TSW dispatcher.

It’s just interesting how you can set a path the entire length of the route in one direction, with go-via locations, but you can’t set the exact same path, through the exact same track and same go-via locations, in the other direction.

There should be a real free roam mode, undispatched like in TSC where you set all switches yourself.

I mean I don't necessarily have a problem with setting the path and having to add the go-via locations. I kind of like it. However, I do agree. I wish we had more freedom and had the option of like, no dispatcher and could just set the switches ourselves. I also don't like how if you're already moving and need to change your path, you have to stop your train first. Changing the path, which basically involves deleting the path you've set first and then creating a new one for where you now want to go, will result in the signals staying red if you're moving. The only way to avoid this is to come to a complete stop first.
