Xbox Free Roam Problem

Hi folks,
Last night I watched a video on YouTube of Matt driving on free roam and thought I’d have a go,
I managed to spawn a train but couldn’t set a path, I tried all the buttons on the controller but no joy.
Could someone please tell me where I have gone wrong?

 

click on the train.

 

1. Go to a location
2. Press TAB to open Freeroam
3. Select a starting point at some track. (Note: the block must be free, other wise it will not work)
4. Choose your formation and place it at the track using X. Note: if you turn around you see the direction of the train can be flipped. It depends on what you are looking at.
5. Sit in the driver steam
6. Open the 2D map
7. Click on your train
8. Set a path
9. Drive.

 

if they have a keyboard to connect to the x box then sure

The only thing I didn’t do was get in and click on the 2D map

 

It really is horribly unintuitive. And even when following the instructions here and in the guide linked above I'm getting an "Unreachable Location" error when I try to set a path on the 2D map for pretty much every train I try it with without any explanation - only the repurposed IoW tube train allows me to set a route.

Any idea where I can find a comprehensive guide, or does one just not exist?

 

Yup - Free Roam is a very nice feature with a lot of potential. But the UI is horrible, especially on console/ Xbox. It’s hard to figure out how it works. And it’s even harder to get the curser placed in order to choose a path point. There should be something like a „magnetic mechanism“ which aims the curser automatically to a rail. But this is the first version of it, let’s wait and see how it will develop in the future.

 

I've had some weird goings on in free-roam, pre-update and still post-update too. (Steam, PC)

I can no longer drive the 31 and 37 when I spawn them, either the master key or reverser is locked and nothing I can do, even when resetting via stuck option. A spawned 47 will not go forwards, only backwards and I can no longer drive a spawned LNER GWE skinned HST.

I know DTG said they had an engineer looking at older stock having problems with free roam but excuse me if I take that with a pinch of salt, looks like the fun I was having with free roam has come to an end for some reason
