The railway line of the Garfagnana is a secondary line that joins Aulla Lunigiana to Lucca was built in Portions from 1892 to 1959.
Skied the branch of Aulla Lunigiana, which is located in a decentralized position with respect to the city center, and crossed the short variant route in the 2000s, you reach the station of Pallerone, without traffic, where in the locality Bibola was present the connection with the adjacent dust mill that also housed a small bundle of tracks. The crossed area is part of Lunigiana, whose territory is still scarcely populated here. After another unused facility, the Serricciolo stop, then meet, in order, the blocked stops present in the territory of Fivizzano (in the villages of Rometta-Soliera and Gassano). After the Gragnola station the slope of the line increases, and two further stops are touched: Monzone-Monte dei Bianchi-Isolano, where the maximum slope of the line is reached, equal to 25 per thousand, and Equi Terme, a village renowned for its presence of a sulphurous water source and a cave system. After leaving the next station of Minucciano-Pieve-Casola, equipped with a goods track with a loading system, the trains then enter the Lupacino tunnel, 7.515 km long, the most significant of the line. We then arrive at Piazza al Serchio, now in the province of Lucca, at the beginning of the crossing section of the Garfagnana, from which the line takes its traditional name. In memory of the steam traction the FS 940 002 locomotive is preserved here as a monument. So begins the long descent to Lucca, serving in succession the stops of Camporgiano, Poggio-Careggine-Vagli, Villetta-San Romano and Pontecosi, until you reach the station of Castelnuovo di Garfagnana. Further 3 stops (Fosciandora-Ceserana, Castelvecchio Pascoli, locality that takes its name from the famous Italian poet, and Barga Gallicano) and you reach the Fornaci di Barga station, also well known in Italy for being mentioned in the works of Pascoli. Here the link, now disarmed, was present for the Europa Metalli plant (transformed into Kme Group). A further link, at the service of a paper mill and still active, is located at the milestone 28 + 484 from Lucca (Tronchetti link). Immediately after, follow the Piano di Coreglia-Ponte all'Ania station, located between Fornaci di Barga and Ghivizzano-Coreglia. After passing the Ghivizzano-Coreglia stop, the railway reaches the disused intermediate stop in Calavorno. After this small and simple stop, the line arrives therefore the spa town of Bagni di Lucca. Keeping close to the river Serchio, the line meets one of the most classic points near Borgo a Mozzano, where it passes under a specially built fornix in the bridge of La Maddalena, and then reaches the Diecimo-Pescaglia station. At the progressive 14 + 902 from Lucca, there is another active connection, the one with a plant in the Lucchese Paper Mill (Lucart). Now in almost flat territory the track passes the former stop of Piaggione and reaches the station of Ponte a Moriano, the terminus of the first stretch of the railway built and once the seat of a jut, connected to both the railway station and the steam railway for Lucca owned by the same. After passing the suburb of San Pietro a Vico and passing by a level crossing the Via Pesciatina, which until 1957 housed the metric-gauge railway of the electric tramway to Pescia, the Garfagnana railway terminates its journey at the station of Lucca ( font Wikipedia )
