Birmingham Cross City probably doesn't need an update right now, as it is a very recent TSW3 route, but do you think it will have any improvements or content in the future, or does DTG consider it abandonware now? I'm just sick to death of only having the class 323 and a completely dead Birmingham New Street station. Does DTG still have the WMR licence?
Usually older routes get some sort of summer update and it's usually big or small depending on how much they can squeeze into the time frame. But the chances of it receiving a major overhaul are slim. Look at all the other dlc that still have issues since launch. Best way to know what gets released next is to watch the roadmap to see if another route gets created to populate this route but nothing in there suggesting anything
I can see the class 730 being a possible DLC in the distance future but as said above it’s unlikely BCC will receive any major updates, plus it’s not like it’s in a dire state any, not like some other routes.
I can't see much happening with BCC in the short-term from DTG. However that doesn't mean that the route is dead. There have recently been some great scenery updates created for the route. Also I am hoping to release a mod that will add extra paths to the route in the near future. That should liven up New Street a bit.
Not sure why, but I have a feeling that BCC will form part of a TSW5, or similar, launch route. Extended with some additional DLC to fill out the route. No insider knowledge or owt, just a gut feeling. Really like the route, it just needs traffic (3 to 4 different trains that can be driven), to make it feel true to life.
I'd like to see this line updated with the WMR 170 and the Camp Hill line services when they start (now planned by the end of this year), potentially with the 730 too as a subbing loco DLC for the 323. The trackwork already exists in-game and is signalled, just needs scenery. Soho depot and Chase Line services as far as Aston are also currently missing but should be feasible to include. Plenty of opportunities here to vastly increase the variety on the southern half of this already pretty good route.
No route is officially abandoned, the exact same could be said for Cathcart but it’s about to get a dlc. Birmingham is better of waiting for if WCML content shows up to layer in.
It would be nice to see it expand into a wider West Midlands network. Do a LIRR on it (and do it properly) adding Walsall and Coventry through to Wolverhampton. Either a Class 350 EMU or a Class 390 Pendolino would start to fill things out nicely. The other curved ball which I would like to see is push down towards Bristol from Bromsgrove, give us (license permitting) some Cross Country action with Voyagers. Or even just down to Worcester and maybe Hereford, bring in some diesel WMR stuff. Third option would be north from Landor Street to Derby, given they could use the station and surrounding assets already created by SHG. And any update should add the Camp Hill Lines as an alternative route for diesel traction into New Street from Kings Norton. This could really be a cracking little network if DTG applied themselves to the task.
That would be a great addition when it's up and running. Kings Heath station coming along... Only trouble is that the 323s will probably be gone by the time that line opens, so it won't be a genuine transition period. Also, the 170s have already gone. If they do make the Chase Line, as .battalion. proposed here, it would at least allow them to add in Soho depot activities to BCC.
I lived on this route until 1954 and it really reminds me of my childhood days. The route doesn’t need an update but I would like to see an update to improve Birmingham New Street Station as well as a little more accessibility around Bournville Station would be nice please,
I also hate how empty new street is I used freeroam and people's livery creations to show how much better it would look more populated, although it is frustrating that the proper services and locos arent in the game, we did get the 323 reliveries which means it could still be developed further. On a more likely note we do have 2 UK routes coming up on the road map. It seems more likely that rather DTG completely updating cross city is that they would add another area such as snow Hill bringing the 172 and posibly wmr 170 depending on the 3rd parties and time the route is set as a layer into cross city or even the walsal to Wolverhampton line or any other line including the 350 which would go directly through Birmingham new street. However things like cross country and transport for wales 158/170/150 would be unlikely because of licensing. This would also assist them in larger projects along the line as then they already have the layers for the West coast mainline one of which being the 710 which we already have.
323's aren't relevant to the Camp Hill as its diesel only. Now if we could go back to my days working the area with the old diesel mechanical units
The route is fine but I would like an extension to Worcester so I can run HST services and railtours, it seems silly starting at Bromsgrove with a 47 and rake of mk2s.
