Good afternoon all, First every post on the forum. I’m wondering if anyone knows of any further Scottish routes that are planned to be released in the near future for Train Simulator. These are the following routes that I had in mind: Glasgow to Carlisle via Kilmarnock, New Cumnock, Sanquhar and Dumfries including the various coal terminals in the area (Killoch Colliery, Greenburn). The whole of Ayrshire to include Barassie, Prestwick, Hunterston, Falkland Yard, Irvine Caledonian Paper Terminal, Ayr station, Girvan and Stranraer. Stirling to Inverness (I’m aware that Just Trains were planning on releasing the Highland Mainline from Perth to Inverness but unfortunately this route was never released). Inverness to Aberdeen via Elgin. Dingwall to Wick and Thurso. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.
I would welcome these or any one of them. We would need a Class 26 for all of them if they were set in the period 1960-1985 and that would be welcome. I used to enjoy a visit to Viewfield road, Ayr to view the depot there. I was seconded to a company based in Viewfield Road in 1970 for a month, my employer did not realise what a good turn he was doing me!! My return visits were never the same when the footbridge was removed.
You will only find out about a new DTG Route about a month before it is released It is a commercial business and that is the way they do things Just Trains do give information of routes that are being worked on but until you see something that is it. I spotted this but I don't have any info on how good it is https://alanthomsonsim.com/downloads/network-scoteast-phase-one/ Peter
Let's cover my knowledge of these as a non-Scot and even a non-Brit. Not sure if this was suggested before, but it might be viable. I have not researched it and thus won't give an opinion. I actually suggested this once. See here. They cancelled the project because Google sources did not provide very high quality of the area covered, making it hard to work on designing the area in a virtual space. Yes, there are multiple cab ride videos and trackside infrastructure can be gleaned from that, but I guess they needed more to create a proper DLC with everything surrounding the stations, and the route, and they perhaps don't have a contact from the area who can give them a helicopter ride getting footage. So I doubt this will get out soon, if at all, and likely not from Just Trains. There is an Aberdeen Angus route, but it ends well before Aberdeen at Dundee. We have no idea whether a route will ever get to Aberdeen. The Further North route was once released as freeware. UKTS has a Further North Scenario Pack that might be able to lead you to it. I may have more info later if I find it (I downloaded the pack and think the route is at RWA for some reason). I don't know how much of the route was done, but I believe both northern termini are present and know the real route goes from Inverness, which was explored in a DLC to Kyle of Lochalsh (coincidentally by Just Trains, and I recommend buying at their site as you get way more activities for it using some extra locos you may decide to pick up). I believe it will only go to Ladybank and Stirling. So the Stirling to Perth area, which I also suggested as a DLC in the past, remains viable. We really need the Cumbernauld to Coatbridge area and I also added Edinburgh to Glasgow via Bathgate to my suggestion list to possibly have that connection, plus the route to Springburn through the Gartcosh Junction. Merging such an item with the WCMLN and Suburban Glasgow would provide a full DLC merge option of the Argyle Line, in full, with every real life service possible with some train, matching or substituted. We may need an enhancement package for Anderston, however, unless the uppoer WCMLN gets remade up to Glasgow Central to add Anderston Station, which is omitted both from WCMLN and Suburban Glasgow and making a Workshop merge incomplete at best without the separate off-site station pack. For the OP's benefit, I point out that Iain Mackay, the maker of Suburban Glasgow, actually has a merge up already addressing this problem, and that pack is a requirement. Also see his West Highland Line merge, including Oban from the original Oban Line (still available at UKTS and included in the merge with the developer's blessing).
Any thanks to everyone for their reply’s. I greatly appreciate the time everyone has taken to reply to the discussion. Many thanks.
Glasgow South Western Line should be a no-brainer given that quite a bit of assets could be reused from already released routes (e. g. Glasgow Central and Carlisle stations)
Alan Thompson sim has this available to download providing you have the requirements.: https://alanthomsonsim.com/downloads/ayrshire-and-inverclyde-lines/ Network scoteast V2 is due for release as well which is a huge step up from V1 which was pulled. IIRC it will be subware on ATS personally i find the sub to be totally worth it others will have different opinions
Didn't DTG built a route between Aberdeen and the airport to promote that project? Perhap they can use that as a base for a new route. Although I have never seen that route so I am not sure how good , detailed or or interesting it is.
Would be nice if JT could extend their Kyle Line towards the Far North. 140 odd miles a bit of a tall order (if you include the Thurso branch), but getting from Dingwall to Lairg or Brora ought to be doable.
I think they tried before to cover the line from Stirling to Inverness. It was indeed a tall order. They were not able to get a good enough reference to make the line accurately and canned the project. I doubt they'll try to go to Thurso at this point. That said, there was something on another site called the Far North Line, but I know there was also an American project by that name. The other was in Alaska. And we have that DLC now.
Fairly certain I read that JT had progressed Inverness to Perth but abandoned it for undeclared reasons. Maybe the team switched over to the TSW project instead.
I wouldn’t mind seeing a version of the Cathcart circle for TS classic with either an AP class 314 or a new build class 334.
A 334 would be ideal as that can we used on surburban Glasgow route as well and WCML north for the Motherwell section. A 314 we already have via a 3rd party.
Stranraer via Girvan in the loco hauled era would also be nice. And for something way, way out how about the Ballater Branch with the battery powered unit, BEMU?
I did a Class 360 in SPT and ScotRail liveries and classified them as a Class 334 in the absence of an actual class, and they're available at Alan Thomson Sim (previously available from UKTS). I think Armstrong Powerhouse is bringing out a Class 318 at some point.
Yup I have your “334” in sim already thanks for thst. And GU studios are making a 318 to compliment the 317 packs they released in AP. Will be great for WCML north scenarios and the suburban Glasgow route.
