    After working fine for years game now crashes with OOM error even if I have only one route in folder,

    Running 64bit version and not changed anything since I ran it last week. Doing a verify of a base set of Assets (wouldn't load with that either).
    Has anything changed in the last week?

    PC is well over specced for the game

    Whilst it is validating unsubscribed to half a dozen Workshop items to clear that as a potential issue

    Nothing has changed in the last week. Were you playing regularly or has it been a while? First thing is to run a verify and see if it's all there and hasn't gotten corrupted somehow.

    Have you installed something new - such as a repaint or third party Freeware?

    Open your RailWorks folder. Double click "LogMate.exe" and then start TS. After the crash, close LogMate and then you will find one or more .log files in the RailWorks folder. Zip these and attach the zip here. (More Options... Upload a file)

    If that is the case (it is likely so), you also need to delete anything that is extracted.
    Unsubbing from the game does so, but unsubbing from Steam will leave the excess item, until some reinstall.
    Probably. I think some scenarios did disappear from my system, so there is a chance the game occasionally double checks.

    Anyway, What can help is using NameMyRoute.exe within the game's folder.
    Here is what it shows me:
    upload_2024-10-31_18-53-56.png

    This tool has a right click menu that includes Delete.
    Once my installation got stable enough back in 2016-2017, I always just checked the next scenario that I would play and deleted the folder in case it looked faulty. Upon the next game launch - and the popup showing - it would always extract fine.

    Thanks - I ended up saving off all my customized routes and assets, uninstalling and reinstalling. The put back my custom assets and got it started with default routes and it loaded!!! So I have been adding back my collection of routes a few at a time and so far with three quarters back in it is starting ok. Will continue to go along this but had totally forgotten Logmate! Will see how I go tomorrow as had been a long day> Only wanted to recreate a run I had on |Swanage Railway yesterday behind Manston

    Not sure if any of this means anything to anyone. It was starting then hung for ages verifying workshop stuff which it just froze at for ages even though I have no workshop subscriptions

    You might have some corrupt Workshop items. What did you add when it failed again? Remove anything Workshop and try it again. As in, remove the scenarios completely, don't just unsubscribe from them.

    For future, I would suggest going in and extracting any scenarios from within the files that you subscribe to, and unsubscribe to then clear those files. See here for an example:

    upload_2024-10-31_18-0-35.png
    upload_2024-10-31_18-1-24.png

    That Content folder is the exact same structure as the game folder; drag it into Railworks and unsubscribe, and you will have the actual source files. Workshop items can become corrupt if you let the game install them. I have a thread on this subject. Please click into that thread to see images of an example.

    You have corrupt preload consists (happened to me too, from various freeware repaints.) These cause QuickDrive to crash for example.

    You must delete all files that are marked as "invalid" - they are of no use anyway in that state!

    These entries are *interesting*..

    "2024/10/31 21:20:33.509 - [RunTimeError] - D:\RGBuild\CoreRelease\Code\DLLs\DataManagement\cBlueprintSet.cpp : 343"

    Why is the game looking outside it's folder tree?

    That is the piece of C++ code that hits an error. D:\RGBuild is the TS source code folder on DTG's system, and its path is compiled into GameManagerVC64.dll (which is actually the game) for debugging purposes - so a dev knows which C++ module he should look into or why the game data failed. The only thing interesting for the user is what follows the code, and that is the DATA that is invalid and cannot be processed by the program.

    So the game is not "looking" for this cpp file - it is the source that is compiled into the dll. cBlueprintSet.cpp is the code module that is parsing the blueprint data. .cpp is the file type for C++ (C plus plus) source. Just as if you'd send me a .doc file, it holds information about the location of that file on your computer which I can lookup.

    Logfile explained:
    2024/10/31 21:20:53.427 - [RunTimeError] - Verify failed:
    2024/10/31 21:20:53.427 - [RunTimeError] - D:\RGBuild\CoreRelease\Code\DLLs\DataManagement\cBlueprintSet.cpp : 343
    2024/10/31 21:20:53.427 - [RunTimeError] - Assets\PeterG_EK\QuickDrive\PreLoad\Static CU6 GWR Bloater x3 EK.bin appears to contain invalid data

    Error type, code module & line that was executed at the time of the error, data that was processed by that line of code + identified issue

    Another simple example.
    I am writing a module for a game, let's call it input.src (pseudo code)

    open file "blueprint"
    read a
    read b
    c = a+b
    print c
    return

    Now, the blueprint would contain

    Peter
    Mary

    The program runs and crashes. Logmate would show this, stating it crashes in line 4 (which is adding a+b) because of invalid data (strings instead of numerics)

    [RunTimeError] Type mismatch - integer expected
    [RunTimeError] C:\Spikee1975\TheGame\Source\input.src : 4
    [RunTimeError] Assets\Provider\Product\blueprint contains invalid data

    Funfact: LogMate.exe was apparently a project by a Matt. Was that you DTG Matt?
    2024-11-01 04_10_04-.png

    chrisreb For visualization, can you upload the file Assets\PeterG_EK\QuickDrive\PreLoad\Static CU6 GWR Bloater x3 EK.bin in a zip? A nice sample to demonstrate was exactly goes wrong. I will try to unserialize it and the issue will be revealed.

    That'd be because Paul is missing?....(you have to be a certain age to understand that one...)

    Can we just throw a John in there and fix it?

    (No, I don't understand; maybe it's a regional thing too.)

    Here is that file. When I get a chance I should look out all these and delete? The game started this morning so something. Appreciate the interest, thanks.

    Will also follow procedure above for workshop stuff - Should I now delete all the folders in the workshop folder or leave them?

    That's what the consist Preload looks like. It just contains a name, and is devoid of consist data. Note the empty line - this is not a blueprint created with BlueprintEditor, but a manually edited file. ConsistEntry is NOT of type DeltaString - someone has messed with that file.

    On the right hand side is what a correct consist preload looks like.

    I would advise to delete the whole Assets\PeterG_EK\QuickDrive folder. You won't be missing anything, stuff like this causes QD crashes that no one can reproduce who doesn't have the same assets installed. (Wasn't there someone who insisted on Huddersfield QD crashing at Stalybridge? It doesn't unless you have installed such freeware preloads that qualify for Hudd QD, might also be rogue repaints.)

    This is a "light" example. The game may catch this error, log it and continue, maybe a QD is showing issues when one of the preloads get randomly chosen.

    Follow Cyclone's advice and unsubscribe ALL workshop content. Resubscribe what you want - if you let the game install it, only subscribe to the next item as soon as the previous one is installed completely. Or transfer the files manually from the steamapps\workshop\content\24010 folder after subscribing via Steam client - you can safely mass subscribe in that case without corruption. After file transfer, unsubscribe everything before you start the game so it doesn't try to sync these items (as TS Workshop content cannot receive updates, it's useless anyway other for undoing changes you made to a Workshop item.)

    It then will show you an empty Workshop tab, but the stuff is there and normally accessible via Drive menu (Career, Standard or Freeroam). This is a fail safe way, and by doing so, I have a library of 3,000 workshop items installed without any troubles at all. Also, the files will stay on your system even when the author withdraws them.

    Quick Guide how I'm doing it. A file manager is always helpful, use FreeCommander or even 7zip File Manager will do, activate the second view where you set your RailWorks folder.

    1. TS not running, subscribe via Steam Client
    11.png

    2. Enter the download location, 7zip will treat any archive as a folder you can open
    22.png

    3. Copy the "Content" folder to RailWorks
    33.png
    44.png

    4. Unsubscribe to avoid the TS startup syncing. THIS IS IMPORTANT - FILES WILL GET CORRUPTED IF YOU DON'T UNSUBSCRIBE!

    ... and play the scenario :)

    OldVern 50's Swindon - Stroud could be of interest for you? Workshop has a lot of scenarios for that route. Drop the boring TSW and come back here will you! ;)

    I've already leeched the workshop:

    Can only recommend Not.Silent's workshop. His scenarios are the among best you can get. There is so much action that the past really comes alive again. Just look how much stock he's placed.

    Here's an example of what the workshop corruption looks like if you let TS handle the installation and there's multiple subscriptions in the queue: Random characters are missing or changed in the xml TS is changing, making the blueprint invalid.

    So if you let TS install it, always wait for the "Installing Workshop Content" message to disappear before subscribing to the next. Or use the manual file transfer method like I do, which allows mass subscribing.

    Spikee, you know I linked to my thread with that exact same guide, yes? :D

    BTW, my way of storing scenarios is right in the folder. I have saved over 100 GB of Workshop content exactly the way both Spikee and I described. I store it right in the 24010 folder, as the game does not check these locations for files and they are just hanging out there. If I ever want to move them, I can copy them to the game folder, and even move this entire collection to an external drive to free disk space (I really should do that...).

    Referencing the same scenario I used as an example yesterday, here is my trainman4 folder (the person who created it):

    Wow a great lot of into - I have cut and pasted to a Notepad file for reference. Will work through the stuff and DM if any7 queries. Are all TS workshop items in the 24010 or is this date driven? I have loads of sub folders and every one I have checked is empty - can I delete them to clean things up?

    Yes, 24010 is the AppID of Train Simulator Classic. Since 2013. Unsubscribe everything and make sure this folder is empty.

    Exactly. If you see any numbered folders, you may still have subscriptions in there. Everything in my folder is not referenced by the game at all.

    One more note here. If you download a series of scenarios, you can extract them right into an AP file. How? Extract the scenarios to a separate folder and go into the Routes folder there. Create a ZIP archive (don't use 7Zip to do this, it doesn't work). Drag the Scenarios folder in there, then change the file type to .ap. Stick THAT inside the route folder in the game directory.

    upload_2024-11-1_12-33-43.png

    You can see here that my Pacific Surfliner folder (that is route 00000027) contains seven AP files. MainContent comes with the route files, while there are four DLC for the BNSF ES44, F59Coaster, F59PH, and a scenario pack of ten scenarios. The other two are Workshop content from agsieg (now known as Los Tigres) and RBJets, which just happen to be in there right now. They load and function normally by the game and appear as packed DLC in thiird-party apps. They function as any DLC would and cannot be edited in that form. :D

    You could also pack the older routes inside AP files to clean things up, too. I experimented with this on WCML North and on DLC for Great Western Main Line, which has unpacked locos, by packing up the scenarios into archives.

    upload_2024-11-1_12-44-47.png

    Notice the items leading with "Official". Those are scenarios that come unpackaged as the AP files didn't start until the 2012-13 release of the game, so the older DLC were therefore not packaged being released before then. I have left the route files unpacked after all, but you could stick every single folder into its own MainContent.ap if you wanted to. The game may just restore those folders anyway later on. Not a big deal for scenarios as AP files get priority over unpacked ones, but for route files, that's a lot of data being duplicated, so may be best to leaves routes out (though I packed up the scenarios anyway to prevent editing). You can pack up custom routes, though! (Also notice I packed up the AP scenarios as well, including some that are no longer available, and I have a really old UKTS pack also packed this way in addition to some already packed DLC and some Workshop stuff.)

    Swindon route runs well - just some missing bridges I need to check

    This is the requirements - do you have everything? Maybe APStation is missing. It's included in some older DLC.

    Code:
        <RBlueprintSetPreLoad>
            <iBlueprintLibrary-cBlueprintSetID d:id="670911704">
                <Provider d:type="cDeltaString">RSderek</Provider>
                <Product d:type="cDeltaString">WearValleyRailway</Product>
            </iBlueprintLibrary-cBlueprintSetID>
            <iBlueprintLibrary-cBlueprintSetID d:id="670911712">
                <Provider d:type="cDeltaString">DTG</Provider>
                <Product d:type="cDeltaString">ExeterKingswear</Product>
            </iBlueprintLibrary-cBlueprintSetID>

    Got all of that - realized that when I re installed TS2024 yesterday all the settings reverted to default so increased the scenery detail to max so will see if that helps thanks

    I had a play around in editor and saw the bridges were there only when I selected the blank space where they should be and they appeared but set with a detail level of 1. As a test set it to 5 and they stayed visible when I clicked away so will see what happens in play.
