So, here's a big project i thought dtg games could undertake. So, Ferry Sim Europe will be similar to the Train Sim World Franchise and will be a high detail simulator with multiplayer about transporting cars and passangers by sea.

    Base Routes
Like TSW each game will have 3 base routes with the potential for dlc in the future.

    1. Caledonian Macbrayne Mull Ferry Crossing
This is a 50 min crossing from Oban Ferry Terminal to Craiginure on the isle of Mull. The crossing is fairly scenic and has two ships on the route. At each port cars will need directed, Gangways need conected to boats and ramps need deployed for cars. And of coarse the boat needs captained. Drive MV Isle of Mull or MV Loch Frisa. Have a crew of up to 10 Players and/or A.I and manage the crossing through the highlands to the wonderfull isle of mull.

    2. Wight Link
This is a 22 min crossing from Portsmouth Harbour to fishbourne on the sle of Wight.. Captain this car ferry from Portsmouth to the Isle of Wight. Drive the ship, direct cars, reel or deploy ropes or man customer service desks onboard. You choose! Crew of up to 10 players and/or A.I. Choose either MV St Faith, MV St Clare or MV Victoria of Wight. Ethier way we wish you a safe and pleasant journey.

    3. P&O Euro crossing
Captain this 1hour and a half crossing from Dover to Calais. Captain up to 5 Ships on this route from the White Cliffs of Dover to the sunny beaches of France! Crew of up to 15 players and/or a.i. You'll have a lot to do in these ferries! Make sure to reel/deploy ropes, guide cars and passengers safely, man customer service desks and keep the ship clean, deploy ramps for cars, drive the ship and ensure safety of the passengers throughout the journey.
Ships on this route include: P&O Pioneer, Pride of Canterbury, Pride of Kent, Spirit of Britain and Spirit of France.
    upload_2023-8-8_15-41-38.png

Each Route will include 4 scenarios where something will be different or go wrong and you need to respond to the situation. Random events may also happen throughout the journey in timetable mode but this can be toggled in the settings. You can invite your friends to be part of the crew and assign them roles. If there isn't enough players for a full crew then any roles can be filled in by A.I. The Captain (host) can direct the A.I on what to do. Players working together will have to use teamwork to get the ferry going. You can play this single player as well with each task being done by A.I if you direct them to, or by you if you want. The Captain can make pre recorded safety announcements and if a microphone is plugged in they can make their own if they want. As well as random events dynamic weather is in this game meaning it could be choppy one minute and lovely and sunny the next. This game is guaranteed to be fun and great to do with friends or family.

Posted this on rivet forums as well because dtg could maybe do a Collab for the making of this game.

Yea. Staten Island is a no no because Europe. And Germany one can come with as a day 1 DLC or as a special bundle for base routes.

I just picked me 3 favourites. There is options for other routes in the future.

  5. Interesting idea. I'd probably buy it given that I enjoyed ship simulator even with the myriad faults and problems that title had (may it rest in peace).

    Great suggestion.

    Thank you. :)
Was hoping it would be simelar to the Roblox map EuroCross except you are always part of the crew of the ship and the a.i are the passengers and there is proper irl routes and operating companies.

Not sure about the multiplayer aspect but the concept does have a certain appeal. I think the crossings would have to be fairly short to mitigate boredom setting in, or very scenic with maybe some navigation challenges.

One of the best boat journeys I made in Scotland, just a passenger ferry, was Mallaig to Kyle of Lochalsh, up the Sound The Sleat. Really scenic, about 2 hours or so but not in the least boring. Not sure if this still operates.

For the US, how about the San Francisco Bay cruise or you could have Maid Of The Mist at Niagara.

I've been looking for a fun ship simulation game, but it seems to be a niche a lot smaller than the train simulation hobby. There's a few old games out there, but they come with their own set of problems. Nothing modern seems to be available on the market. Or at least, I wasn't able to find anything. Searching for ship simulation games often results a lot of links to naval combat games, which isn't what I'm looking for.

There’s a few sailing games I tried, but they are either too complex or in the case of Sailwind set in a fictional pre industrial world where navigation is a case of dead reckoning and sheer luck.

Not sure about Mallaig to Kyle of Lochalah but the Mallaig to Skye Ferry still runs frequently.
Maid of the mist sounds really good actually!
Good point about the time scale. That's specificly why I include random events and jobs onboard you could do. But yea, without the challenges or scenary it gets boring. Thanks for the feedback! :)

Well, I tried European Ship Simulator and Ship Simulator Extreme, but you can tell these games are old and just feel a bit clunky. But from what I was able to find, these two are apparently the best the market has to offer.

Haven't tried any sailing games. I'm not really into sailing ships. I need something with a motor. :P

Based on my last P&O crossing where we were bouncing off the fenders for 10 mins trying to dock in calm weather, I'm pretty sure the SimSailors would be better than the real thing.

We are not using P&O again.... This year our group is going DFDS (not that I can go this year)

Absolutely spot on for the Niagara Falls route as two countries United States and Canada. If you want that logic to the railway ferry you were a big fan of this Vogelfluglinie Puttgarden Rødby.

For that you could potentially have a role to shunt each carriage onboard! :D

True. Though that's where the 4x acceleration sometimes comes in handy!

That's what the Train Sim World DB BR363 365 and their larger cousins the DB BR290-294 are used for in Puttgarden shunting carriages on the ferry.
