For when the Spirit Of Steam is released, a good next route to suggest would be part of the GCR Mainline from Nottingham Victoria to Leicester Central. Calling stations: - Nottingham Victoria - Nottingham Arkwright Street (Closed 1963-1967) - Ruddington - Rushcliffe Halt (Closed 1963) - East Leake - Loughborough Central - Quorn and Woodhouse - Rothley (Closed 1963) - Belgrave and Birstall (Closed 1963) - Leicester Central The route is roughly around 23.5 miles/37km so it's a fairly decent route size. Steam Locomotives: BR Standard 9F BR Standard Class 2 DMU units: Class 100 Class 105 I'm not too sure how early DMU's starting running along the line but they did during the late 1960's but having them included around that timeframe would mean that Rushcliffe Halt, Rothley, and Belgrave and Birstall would be closed. Possibly Nottingham Arkwright Street as well if it's set between 1963-1967. Leicester Central did have a locomotive shed but it did close in 1964.
Nottingham to Leicester maybe a bit short, how about down to Rugby or even Woodford (as per my signature)? I want to drive through a virtual version of Catesby Tunnel, complete with PW cabin at the halfway point... http://www.forgottenrelics.co.uk/tunnels/gallery/catesby.html
I love the suggestion although I would prefer the route as the preserved Great Central Railway (Loughborough Central to Leicester North) as we currently have only got one heritage line and I would love to see more heritage lines.
Not bad. BR Class 100 as rolling stock units - is a good idea. But if that possible, i whould like to see more diesel engines in this route.
