Hey Guys and Girls We can drive trains or check tickets for a living, but is there anything else we could do? Any suggestions? It will have to fit into and be a part of the TSW world. Onboard food service Either push a trolley up and down the train to sell food and drink or be based in the dinner car or first class serving food. Station Staff Sell tickets to customers. Train Dispatcher Customer service Liquid bean staff Sand Wedge staff Technical support Train mechanic (Depot based or station)
maybe if you run a timetable service, then you can select Return to free roam, which usually means next service with that particular consist... sometimes (especially with some US commuter routes/services) that means even an hour or so in between... so maybe have some checklists and do some functionality tests, like safety systems or brake tests after you set up at the other end and such
Think buffet car steward the most likely, combined with a mini game where you have to serve various passenger requirements, a bit like those fast food games on the iPad and Android tablets. You could have carriage cleaner on nights where you go round the train picking up litter, vomit and then using the Henry or Eubank to clean up the floor. Complex operations are unlikely, but you could have a Sunday service where you are the Pilotman for single line working. Get wrong ended and you have to run 10 miles back down the track to where the next train is waiting!
Buffet car steward is a good idea, you could do mini games, build a better burger type of think or could be like bus sim take money and give change to passengers. The cleaner idea is probably easier to implement because you already have a baggage clear away from the guard mode. Yes, we get to use Henry or whatever DTG will call Henry, maybe Harry
Another job or position is controller. Arrange trains as required, busy periods ensure larger trains, quiet periods arrange shorter trains and put some back in the depot till required for busy period. Deal with emergencies, work around broken down trains, arrange recovery and cover for the broken down trains. Not sure how it would work, maybe sit in a control room with some live video feed, maybe be able to help with things, be a driver for some of the problems, recover the broken down train or resque the passengers.
Or the old traffic management games from SIAM. The problem though running in real time is that there can be long periods with nothing to do. When I tried my hand at being a signaller in SimRail in one of the quieter boxes it was actually quite boring.
you can still play with your phone or sweep floors in your room or sth a bored dispatcher would also do
and while on the job, you're not allowed to solve crosswords, play games on your phone or do anything beside the tasks assigned to you nowadays, with inwards facing camera's, you're always watched and/or supervised
Would certainly be a cool feature to have simulated dispatcher regardless of if it becomes playable or not
I think that a cool idea would be Station staff at any station on a particular route aswell as signaller. I think guard mode needs improving aswell
