As a huge fan of Just Train's Blackpool Branches and as someone who will be getting the new Preston to Carlisle route, I would love for Just Trains to finish off the northern section of the WCML and take the route to Glasgow Central. Beattock Summit would be a great driving experience and while Carstairs today isn't really anything to talk about, in the JT era it would be a hive of activity and make for some great scenarios as trains are split/joined and locos changed, diesel to electric and vice versa. Then you'd have busy depots at the likes of Motherwell and Polmadie and lots of freight including Ravenscraig steel trains, container trains and coal. Plenty of chances to layer in locos/wagons from other routes. As JT have gone for a pre-DVT era on the routes so far, it would allow those who like ECS runs to perform lots of those and light loco moves at Glasgow Central. Stockwise: A 303/311 is a must. It's iconic and was the mainstay back then. Class 86 - if it's not the loco they are planning to release as a standalone. (My personal favourite would be a roarer - like an 85 - but the 86 would make more sense and be usable on so many other routes) MK2 aircons - a much needed addition to the TSW library. Layers: The DTG 314 would be nice if it could be retro-fitted to 1980s look. Probably as AI only as wasn't running into Central high level then. The 101 could be used. The era JT modelling at moment, it's the changeover on Ayr lines from DMUs to the 318s, but the 101s stuck around. They would be an acceptable substitute. The 08, 20, 37, 47, Mk2s, Mk3s etc could all be layered in easily.
I would love to see this! Nice suggestion! Can I just ask would there be any new gameplay or unique services this route could offer? And why that time period. Why not modern day where you could have a pendolino tilting through the Pennine hills with tonnes of layers?
Lots of layers unique to that time period such as the Carstairs suggestion, plus you're passing multiple depots and way more freight than you get today. And the reason for that time period is that's what JT have done so far and done a fantastic job, and it means bar the pacer, you can layer in just about everything from Blackpool Branches and the new Preston-Carlisle route. It makes more financial sense for JT to do this era as it helps them sell more copies of their other routes. By all means a modern day Carlisle-Glasgow would be great but let someone like DTG do that so they can utilise their existing Glasgow Central model.
