Hello I'm suggesting on modern-day route will take place in 2022. The West Highland line Glasgow Queen Street to Oban. Trains BR Class 156 (ScotRail) BR Class 73 (Caledonian Sleeper (Serco)) BR Class 153 (ScotRail Highland Explorer) Services Glasgow Queen Street - Oban This train is a 4 car service as far as Creinlarach. Then board the train and uncouple it at Crianlarich. Wait 3 mins then depart on the Oban line for Tyndrum Lower. Stop at stations and arrive at Oban. Unload passengers, turn on the tail lights and switch headlights off, close the doors when all passengers have allighted safely and then end your service. During Peak time services and extra car (Class 153 Highland Explorer) will be added. Mon - Fri 6 trains per day and a service to Dallmally in the afternoon. On Sunday there are 3 train per day. Saturday there are 6 trains per day but the Dallmally train does not run. Creinlarach - Glasgow Queen Street Drive this Class 73 Locomotive with 10 MK 5 carriages with sleeper rooms, a càfe car and seated coaches operated by (you guessed it!) Caledonian Sleeper (Serco). Call at all stations to Glasgow Queen Street and allight the train at Glasgow. This can also be operated the other way in the morning. Glasgow Queen Street - Creinlarach. Why? One of the most busiest and most scenic railway journeys in the world. Anything can happen any day weather it be an avalanche, a signal fault or a tree on the line. So many exciting scenarios can be made from this including interesting services. If you have ever traveled on this route you will know that almost every single train is packed! With passengers getting the train to Glasgow for their flight later on or for holiday makers looking to get to there destination. Every day is a new day on the west Highland line. Thank you for reading this. I really hope this gets made and I really hope you enjoyed reading it and I Hope you all have a nice day! My auto correct had a nervous brake down when making this.
Interested in the route but only for loco hauled era, preferably transition from Class 27's to Class 37's period. Or go really retro when the main route to Oban was via Stirling and Callander!
I know what your all going to say “Not enough services”, “too long”, blah, blah, blah. But I think this route makes up for it in scenery and distance. It could also have Alot of scenarios
Sorry but current day would be boring. If the route gets made at all, which frankly seems unlikely as it has been suggested a few times already, then those of us with an interest can make a case as to why it should be set in a different era. Scottish mountain routes operated by Sprinters are not likely to appeal to a very wide audience, compared to setting them in the haulage area (also more scope for freight).
I will have to agree with Vern on this one. Driving sprinters on a what will pretty much be an empty route does not interest me at all. Give me at 27 or 37 to thrash whilst viewing the scenery which, like you say, is just beautiful and I wouldn't hesitate in buying it.
You could include two different eras in the same route because modern day there are so little services
Like eastcostway 2020 and east Coastway 313. Expect it would be West Highland Line 1980 and West Highland 2022. You could also include layers for freight services
The advantage of a 27 or 37 is the much better view out the front and side of the cab than the narrow slit window on a Sprinter, same as the view from an Electrostar. Don’t misunderstand me, Sprinters especially 158’s are not bad trains but if you are going to do a scenic route in TSW then you need to use the best possible trains to enjoy the experience.
Okay, like I said. They could release a Class 156 train pack for the route and allow you to have them run in 2022 era
I love the West Highland Line but I'm less excited if it doesn't pass through Rannoch Moor. Would love to see the route with more historic rolling stock, but I gotta admit that ScotRail livery looks good on pretty much anything.
After being on this route in real life I more than ever want it! Even having the trains would be amazing. Such a beautiful route and I hope DTG makes this for TSW some day
Excellent Idea and for Caledonian Sleeper Class 73s these must be the 73/9s that way owners of West Highland Line with RHTT can MU control a Class 66 from Class 73. Non-rebuilt Class 73 diesel mode MU Blue Star with Classes 20 31 33 non 33/2 33/1 (SR MU System) 37/5 40 & 45 from WCL Tees Valley Line WSR and Huddersfield Line the NTP
