Hey guys. I just thought I’d show you what I’ve done so far with the Glossop Line whilst getting my hands on with the editor. Starting off in the Manchester Piccadilly area, I’ve started off by adding some small touches to the station ‘clutter’ - I’ve added new P.A speakers and CCTV assets around the station, just as you’d see in real life. More assets are to be placed in due course. Outside of the station, on Fairfield Street, I’ve added a pedestrian crossing with some traffic lights, as well as an unfortunate van driver, who has crashed into a traffic light, taking out out in the process I’ve also added some low, wooden fencing to separate the grass from the pavement. Seeing as the editor is still in beta as well, I have no idea what is and isn’t possible, as well as sharing possibilities. However, I’m hoping once I’ve finished this project, I can release it. Any ideas, suggestions and feedback in regards to what to add will be greatly appreciated
As with the unofficial editor you can create a layer on top to add objects and the like. In other words you can’t edit what’s already there but you can add to it. My understanding is that saving it, cooking it and using it are currently not happening though.
That’s great londonmidland, did you model these extra assets yourself? I’m starting to wonder if those invisible walls that prevent players exploring tracks leading to portals could be removed and extra tiles overlaid to slightly extend routes.
It's not working like TSC where you could just clone a DLC route and modify it and save it back. The TSW routes are locked, as JetWash said you can load them into the editor but can't edit them. You're adding a layer that contains the assets you're placing. To be able to remove existing assets from a route, we'd need some "antimatter" asset. This layer gets packed into a mod as it cannot be merged into the route. The mod then gets "superimposed" onto the original route when TSW is loading the pak files. This is basically what modding is, and the same principle has been used since (according to my memories) the original Doom's PWADs that merge into the IWAD (Patched files loading on top of the original game files). A game that's very much alive still with awesome maps made for that vintage milestone game engine. 30 years and still going strong. Quite impressive.
Can I ask how I might find these sort of assets in the folders and then get a copy of one onto an SST tile I’ve already created. EDIT: Had a try dragging the blueprint of a lorry from the London to Birmingham Scenery/Vehicles folder onto my tile at Holbeck and that seems to work ok. Great fun to be had with this.
If you want to do this on Glossop Line, board an AI train on platform 13 or 14 at Piccadilly and wait for you the reach the edge of the world. This does't end the service like other routes for some reason (at least on PS5). When the train stops you can't move or get off it. Instead, save the game. Then, when you reload it, you're at the edge of the world, the train has disappeared and can explore to your hearts content! Pretty much no collision volumes in Manchester so you can pass through anything.
