I don’t think they did. I can’t see this route ever getting DLC to be honest. I have a feeling it’s going to be completely forgotten very quickly.
Unless you go back to the DC 1500v days and run 506’s. I was pondering yesterday what year it was converted to AC operation but got a feeling it was too late to see 304’s unlike Birmingham Cross City.
Nope, there was never any need as the line was always electrified. After Woodhead became the Glossop line, it was serviced by class 506’s, then 303’s, then 304’s & 305’s - upto the late 90’s where the 323 took over. Those are likely going to be the mainstay for a while still, with the WestMidlands sets being cascaded to Northern. It also sees the occasional 331. In short, you’d have to go back a couple of decades to see anything other than the 323 running (outside of rare instances of replacements). A 331 is the most likely DLC, but as Owen said above, I don’t think this route will see any. You could get a 150/1 DLC that would do the run out to Hyde North, but seems abit pointless.
150/1s have been known to run the service in hot weather when the wires have started to sag but that’s about it I think. We don’t have a 150/1 (no end gangway connection is the difference to the 150/2) so maybe one for DTG to look at to allow us some Hyde North services. Class 156s have also shown up coupled to 150/1s during disruption last year. https://www.flickr.com/photos/12497...6-6KLTTK-d3Rtb-hoksSe-2iHmpru-2iHj1Et-2iHmva8
Well apart from maybe a Sprinter which drives on part of the route I can't think of any DLC for it. I doubt they would make a Sprinter for the route but I guess a suitable one may layer in in the future.
I have seen a photo of a regional railways class 305 on it from around 1995. Just looked on Wikipedia and it suggests December 1984 for the 303's introduction and that they were replaced by 304's and 305's before the 323's. That makes sense as all the Longsight 303's were unrefurbished and I think they had all left the Manchester area by the early 1990's.
303's would be a good fit as these could also layer on to Cathcart. Though in truth would prefer a 304 or 305 with those noisy cooling fans roaring!
Indeed. When I look at Man Picc I see the station ought to be alive with Pendolino's, Voyagers, TfW services to and from North and South Wales, various other Northern diesel and electric services, TPE. They have got to be planning something else for it.
