The Gotthard Railway is a 216km (134 mile) railway passing through the Alps connecting Luzern in Switzerland to Milan in Italy. I am proposing the 146km (91 mile) section from Luzern to the Italian town of Como on the Swiss-Italian border. Although we already have 2 Swiss routes in the game already, this would be a great introduction to Swiss mainline railways. Almost the TSW3 version of the Main Spessart Bahn where rolling stock can layer onto most other mainline routes. The route would be set after 2020 after the opening of the Gotthard Base Tunnel and Ceneri Base Tunnel. A portion of this route can be explored in Train Sim Classic by Rivet Games. I will talk about this route from the northern point of Luzern, heading south. Starting off in Luzern, on the banks of Lake Luzern is Luzern HBF, the 6th busiest railway station in Switzerland and in the northern foothills of the Alps. Leaving Luzern the line heads west-nortwest out of the main station and under the city, the first stop is Luzern Verkehrshaus, home to the Swiss transport museum, exhibits include old Swiss trains, planes and cars. The railway follows the northern edge of Lake Luzern until it reaches Lake Zug and then the first major stop of Arth-Goldau. This is where the Gotthard Railway branches to Luzern and Immense merge. The line then heads south back against the eastern side of Lake Luzern towards Erstfeld, this is where the line splits 1 line heads through the new 57km Gotthard Base tunnel, which opening in 2016 became the worlds longest and deepest rail tunnel, at it's deepest point is 2.3km underneath the Alps, with operating speeds at 200kph (125mph) and can see 130-160 trains pass through per day. (Tom Scott made a video about this tunnel) It runs between Erstfeld and Bellinzona The 2nd way is the above ground mountain pass that runs along side the Gotthard Base Tunnel from Erstfeld to Göschenen and then under the Gotthard Tunnel (A Separate 15km tunnel under the Alps) towards Airolo, now in the Italian speaking region of Switzerland towards Biasca and Bellinzona After Bellinzona the line splits briefly after the town of Giubiasco, the fast line heads through the Ceneri Base Tunnel, whilst the above ground section passes through Rivera-Bironico and Taverne-Torricella. Both lines merge again at Lugano before heading south towards Chiasso over the Melide Causeway across lake Lugano in the canton of Ticino. Arriving in Chiasso locomotive hauled services will end of the player here, due to Swiss Locos being replaced for Italian locomotives, here the trains also cross the border into Italy, and head for the final few kilometers to Como. Climbing every mountain and fording every stream, there are over 1200 bridges, totalling over 6km of the total route distance. Rolling Stock to come with the route: SBB-CFF-FFS Re420 Passenger Services Freight Services (Including Banker services for other freight trains) SBB-CFF-FFS Re 620 Freight Services SBB-CFF-FFS Re460 Some Express passenger services RABe 520 Luzern S-Bahn S3 line is playable in its entirety SBB-CFF-FFS Bm4/4 Shunting Services SBB EuroCity coaches and Cab car plus general freight wagons https://imgur.com/a/GBTMJ1P Opportunites for DLC: file:///D:/Downloads/SBB%20DLC.pdf Photo Gallery of the route: file:///D:/Downloads/Gotthard%20photos.pdf
Excellent idea however you are missing SBB-CFF-FFS Re474 ES64F4 RE484 Traxx Rabe 503 Rabe 501 since these trains are designed to run with Switzerland to Italy services in mind. If you look at the rooftop of RE474 RE484 locomotives it has the German Wider pantograph dropped while the Swiss and Italian ones are used. If I were you merge this with Bahnstrecke Olten Sursee Luzern that way you can operate Como Italy to Basel service in one go by dropping the player control at Sursee
