Overview: The Gotthardbahn is a 134 mile (216 kilometer) long railway between Immensee, Switzerland, and Chiasso Switzerland. It is operated by SBB, but also has a few private railroads running on it as well. The line is standard gauge and fully electrified, with a maximum incline of 2.7%. The line splits for most of the journey. There is the western part that goes into the mountains and uses commuter, regional, and local freight. And there is the eastern part that goes through the Gotthard Base Tunnel, which is also the longest railroad tunnel in the world at 35 miles (57 kilometers) long. Higher speed and express freight trains use the tunnel. Rolling Stock: There’s a plethora of locomotives and rolling stock that run on the line. I’ll choose some that I think work for the base route, then some that could be dlc’s. RE 460 Quite an iconic locomotive. It hauls most locomotive hauled regional passenger trains, and occasionally freight. RABe 501 The newest high speed trains in Switzerland. These trains mainly run in the Gotthard Base Tunnel. I don’t want to add too many locomotives for the base route, so here are some DLC trains: RABe 500 The predecessor to the 501. It is also a tilting train, however the tilting is no longer needed due to the Gotthard Base Tunnel. RABe 526 Traverso This train runs commuter/regional services along the line I’ve ran out of images I can put in so I will add them in a reply RABe 502 A bit of a controversial train due to its technical issues when first introduced. These have mostly been sorted out by now RE 420 (nice) A classic freight locomotive that comes in a couple of variants. It also seldomly hauls passenger trains. RE 620 Another classic locomotive that hauls exclusively freight. I’m sure I could add a million more locomotives, let me know in the replies what else you would like to see. Layers: The RABe 523 operates some S-Bahn services on the northern part of the line. There is another S-Bahn that uses the RABe 523 at the southern part, but it uses a slightly different livery. The Vectron, ES64U2, and DB BR 185.5 also run on the route. Conclusion: The Gotthardbahn is truly an amazing line and would be great to see sometime. It would be a lot of work, but definitely worth it, if it looks good!
If they add the twindexx vario, I'm buying day 1. I'm just straight up buying that. ANYTHING Swiss Mainline, is an instant buy for me. I would like for them to however model ETCS a bit better.
I love the idea, but the complete route is just way too long. I would only include the most interesting part. For example Arth-Goldau - Bellinzona. Since the mountain railway isn't built for high speeds, this alone would give us enough travel time. A regional train needs about 2 hrs for this part. And since were at it, I'd include the Traverso in the route DLC, since we wouldn't have any regional services otherwise. This is all just my opinion though ...
Spot on and speaking of Bellinzona that can be the starting point of the International segment Bellinzona Chiasso Milano Centrale.
That’s why I proposed the route to include both segments. As impressive as the tunnel is, it would be very boring if it was the only option to drive on
