This really needs to be fixed, there's an option for a duo of Geeps to pull Q358 and Q352 on SPG but they have nowhere near enough horsepower and tractive effort to pull 40 cars up a 1.5% grade. 30 cars is probably the approximate max, given that 1 Geep can only handle about 15 on a 2% grade. There is no way in hell I can get them to move up the grade with full sanding and as much throttle as possible without wheelslip. EDIT: Wow, none of the manifests except Q375 are able to be pulled by Geeps alone. You can forget about doing coal too.
I haven't played SPG for a while but as far as I remember you can use other locomotives. There are threads on the forum about doing these services with SD40-2s. So if you can change locomotives, maybe you should use a pair of SD40-2 instead GP38-2. EDIT: Just checked by myself and you can even use AC4400CW or C40-8W on these services. I know it's weird that the game let us use GP38-2 but at least we have alternatives.
Q352 bugreport busted, no issues were found and the double GP38-2 performed very well. I think you simply forgot to switch off "engine run" and "control & fuel pump" in your second GP38-2. For this reason, your second GP38-2 was just dead weight instead of additional 2000hp. I'm going to take a short break now and then I'll go for Q358.
Yeah that's what I meant. It's just weird that they have options for only 2 Geeps to pull 40-car manifests and 50-car LOADED coal trains.
Hold on, then would the engine not rev up then? I heard it revving up and down with my throttle. Also, there's no way in hell 2 GP38-2s should be ABLE to pull any more than 20 cars up a 1.5% grade at track speed. There's a reason they're only used for switching, locals, and short transfers between yards.
The train was "only" 1467 tons, I assume it was not loaded, the 1.5% incline was very short and I only lost speed very, very slowly. In the other direction, this service would not have been possible with double GP38-2. Unfortunately I don't know what the real GP38-2 can do, but in TSW 2 Q352 can be done easily with double GP38-2.
In real life, you'd need at least 3 Geeps to pull upwards of 25 cars on a flat surface. There's no way those Geeps should be able to pull that much weight with that little power.
I thought you needed engine run and the control stand to be switched on for it to work with the leader. I could barely get my train going with engine run and control stand off, but once I turned them on it worked fine.
This is what I have learned for TSW years ago and it works perfectly. Lead locos = all three switches on and trail locos = all three switches off. I can operate all American locos without any problems. Of course, only if there is no major bug. EDIT: Here are the Q358 results:
The question is not the number of cars- containers weigh a LOT less than loaded coal hoppers! - but the total train weight. To make the climb from the Cumberland side you need 1.5 hp per ton. Two GP38s (4000 hp) therefore should be able to pull 1500 tons without a problem- assuming they're both pulling.
