As the current owner of a PC with a weak processor (Intel I5 8400) but a powerful video card (RTX 4080 Super 16Gb), I would like to find out which video parameters affect the GPU load, and which ones affect the CPU. Then I, like people in the same circumstances, will be able to adjust the graphics parameters in the optimal way. Maybe someone can tell me what affects what? I will be very grateful.
I found changing following gives a big impact: On pc i have a resolution of 1980x1020, vsync off this killed my fps alot. And shadow to medium. Most routes run well even when the other options are set to high .
At that resolution you are relying on the cpu for graphics, which is the weak link. If you was to be playing at 1440 or 2160 then the graphics card would be doing most of the work. I'm guessing your display native resolution is 1080?
These are average performance figures when I'm not at large stations like Frankfurt or London Euston. In the same place, frames drop to values of 20-30
This monitor is a little to heavy for your pc. Your cpu is weak and this is not fitted your'e pc. It can run but with low settings. If you had a more normal one its less consuming your system
If you go to Windows settings/display settings/ display resolution, it should give you a list of available resolutions. One will have native written next to it. This will be the best resolution for your display. If its 3840x1080 then there's not a lot you can do as 1080 res relies heavily on cpu performance. You can try some different resolutions. Anything x1440 or x2160 will utilise the gpu more than the cpu. My 3070 running a 1080 monitor wouldn't work harder than 60% now I'm running 1440 it's at 100% all the time. That's the target you want to reach 100% gpu.
If I were lucky enough to own such a great monitor and such a high end graphics card, I would invest in a better CPU.
Yeah he has made some strange choices! I would say buy a cheaper monitor and invest more in a cpu..... An extreme quality monitor ask for high end cpu specs and not only a good gpu!
You could try screen percentage 150 and turn off taa. That might help in DX12 Stuck with 11 for a while longer myself .
Hey that’s interesting. Could you elaborate on it a bit if you have a chance? I’m running a x2160 monitor on a slightly CPU bottlenecked machine (3080Ti, Ryzen 5 5600x). My performance is decent most of the time but I still find myself chasing issues here and there so I’d love to understand what’s at play when it comes to odd monitor resolutions. It makes me curious because I feel like that’s a pretty powerful graphics card when compared to that CPU. Currently I’m trying to decide if it’s worth the work to upgrade my CPU and motherboard.
I'm no expert on the matter. I've always been told that 1080 will increase the workload of the cpu compared to higher resolutions. I have a i5 12600kf which isn't the strongest of cpus, when I had a 1080 monitor my cpu usage was much higher that it is now at 1440. Also my gpu usage was a lot lower as well as fps. I've run a 2060s on a relatively weak cpu. ryzen 3 if I remember right and still got good performance from the gpu at 1440. A better cpu is always gonna boost the frame rate up a bit. As will faster memory etc...
No sorry not my thing. the image is thus pulled apart and that looks not realistic. Or is that only on the pictures?
Yes, the picture is deceptive. In reality, due to the curvature of the monitor, the image perception is quite natural. On different trains, you play a little with the FOV value.
