Hi Last year, San Bernardino was announced as a classic DLC route, before becoming part of TSW5. Now, with the popularity of GWE, and the importance of the new version, which isn't just a new timetable, but a real modernization (like Isle of Wight 2022), and with the assurance of a TSW6 this year, and also with the lack of recent photos, do you think it's likely to have Great Western Express 2.0 as one of the three routes in TSW6? (bonus question: do you think branches will be developed? Like the Heathrow, Windsor, Marlow, and Henley branches?) Thanks for the time that some will surely take to answer me! (well, might a name other than Great Western Express be more appropriate for this 2.0 version?)
Yep, i assume we can potentially see this as TSW6 core route for UK, also the class 800 is one of some trains that i want to have in game
No it isn't. It's bringing the visual and technical aspects of the route up to TSW5 standards (new lighting, track shadows, etc). The route is NOT being forward-dated with full electrification, etc.
Honestly, it's highly unlikely it'll be a core route for TSW6 as it's such an old route and has been discounted many times before, lots of folk have picked it up prior to the remaster so they'll be paying full price for a route they already have along with the free remaster, only introducing 2 new routes but paying for 3. Even if they were to discount the core game for players already with the route, it'd be a waste of a slot to bring something new to TSW6. Having a remaster as a core route could take so much from what could be something more demanding.
Maybe one of the reasons Liam was a bit hesitant, unable to answer specific questions in the GWR thread. It’s a very exciting prospect though, would be happy to see it happen.
Welcome to the forum. A bit of historical reading might have helped you answer your own questions, as I think you're reading too much into what happened in the past in order to predict the future, and you're likely to get a negative reaction (I'm going to assume you're not trolling and are genuinely curious about possibilities). We don't know the ins and outs of how San Bernadino ended up being a TSW5 core route, but the consensus on its early announcement is as follows: - LIRR Commuter was dev complete but announcement was blocked by issues with the railroad, who were concerned about players abusing the simulation if safety systems were disabled - DTG didn't want zero stuff on the roadmap for the USA - We got shown an early model from San Bernadino, but then LIRR got released and there was no apparent progress on SBD until it appeared again in the Dovetail Direct Was SBD ever not going to be a core TSW5 route? No evidence to suggest that. So let's not use it as evidence that the GWE Remaster will become a TSW6 core route. Not true. The visuals are being updated but the route is being kept in the mid-2010s, with electrification only out to Airport Junction and HSTs still running. Also remember that GWE Remaster is, as far as we know, still a 'DTG Liam Spare Time Project'. There is no evidence to suggest that DTG have taken it over as a normal tracked project. Given it's been trailed heavily as a free upgrade for existing GWE owners, it would be quite the bait-and-switch to make it part of the TSW6 core bundle, don't you think? Liam has repeatedly said that this is not within scope. Finally, you've not stated any motive for DTG making GWE Remaster a core part of TSW6. Why would they do this when Liam is already doing it for free, and I imagine that GWR (the railway company) will insist on IETs headlining the pack, because that is what currently runs. Real-world railways care a lot about their brand and want to push latest-and-greatest in any product that includes their brand. They don't care that enthusiasts think the IETs are rubbish compared to HSTs. So there is basically no evidence to support your suppositions. Could DTG be doing something in the background that leads to this kind of outcome? Of course, but we can only go on what we know at the moment. What we are far more likely to get is a Great Western route on some other part of the railway - GWR goes a lot further than Reading
I doubt GWE remastered will be downgraded from the good ol' HST to the IETs. That would be a huge disappointment. For a future GWR project, it would be better if DTG went the other way. Forget being boring and modernising, let's go back to the real GWR, Brunel's GWR. Let's have a riviera line set in the 1950's with proper Western locomotives. Manors, Halls, Castles, Kings and a Pannier tank. Now that would be a perfect GWR experience right there
Also Liam has stated the early tech used to build GWE is not compatible with extending the route, which is the only way they could really sell it to us again - either by adding the branches and/or extending to somewhere like Oxford or Swindon. Same as happened with SEHS.
Eh. Don’t know if this can be called a real modernisation. Quite a bit has changed from 2017 till now Probably not as one of the main 3. Maybe as a deluxe edition extra.
l don’t see this happening unfortunately. If Heathrow, Windsor, Marlow, and Henley branches were included, l would buy it for both xbox and steam. As it stands at present their would have to be something really outstanding for me to even consider buying TSW6
It's been mentioned multiple times that the gwe remaster won't be extended, include any branches, or change it to present day, yet for some reason why do people keep speculating it will be?
It would be a case of 'Hi Liam, yes, you know all that hard work you've done? Yeah, scrap it, we're remaking the route from scratch to do an expansion, sorry.' I am definitely inclined to believe a GWR route will be the core British route for TSW6, though. Just not this one. Besides, almost every 'core' British route has been either from or through London, right? (ECML being the exception) Time to look elsewhere I think.
TSW1 had GWE yes, TSW2020 was a "new" version in the same manner as Rush Hour was for TSW2, so TSW2020 had both GWE and NTP for the UK routes
Tsw2020 had 6 routes iirc. The two UK ones were NTP and GWE, Germany was Rapid Transit and MSB, US was NEC and LIRR. I think. Edit: forgot SPG, can't remember if that was a 7th route or took the place of something else.
GWE was the core route for the founders edition, it was the only route in the founders edition mind you, but still definitely a core route......
