    Hi.
I noticed that on Great Western Express some advanced speed reduction warning boards for diverging routes are sometimes tripping AWS warnings incorrectly. For example when leaving Paddington and getting up to full speed there is at one point a passing loop on the left with a 75 mph limit. When passing the advanced speed reduction warning board about a mile before, an AWS warning is tripped in the cab. This would be perfectly okay if the route was set to diverge onto the loop, but should not be happening when the route is set to continue straight along the main.

There are other examples of this behaviour on GWE at various other warning boards. Although this is a technically what we call on the railway a "right side failure" (false positive), it is rather unnerving when blasting along at 125 mph and a AWS speed reduction warning sounds for no reason. This behaviour is definitely a bug on GWE and not prototypical.

Thanks in advance for taking a look.
    David

This has been the case since day one of release and you can add it to the rest of the signalling/infrastructure issues which have yet to be addressed.

    1. Flashing yellows/being checked down for approach release signals: You’ll be going along at 90mph or whatever and suddenly come to a signal with a junction indicator lit to put you onto the fast lines/slow lines. Obviously, you should get prior warning to that with either flashing yellows or being checked down to a red which will ‘release’ when you get to a certain point. On the SEHS Route, they have finally got flashing yellows to work so that’s a good sign. Matt has also said that he has modified the GWE timetable so that you won’t randomly change from fast to slow (or vice versa) for no reason,
    2. TPWS not working: It will give you a brake demand when it shouldn’t (e.g. Reading platform 9) and when it should give you a brake demand (e.g. approaching buffer stops over 10mph at grids), it doesn’t.
    3. PRI not working: The preliminary route indicator approaching Old Oak Common doesn’t work and remains unlit. Not so much of an issue at GWE as there’s only one but as I’ve said already in the WCML route suggestion, they will need to work on getting PRI working for future releases- PRI is key on the WCML because they are used at major junctions as well as approach to some big stations.
I did notice the issue you said but i think the reason why there hasn’t been much said on this forum about it is because it is overshadowed by the bigger issues as listed above- particularly points 1 and 2. The splitting distant approaching Stockley junction (Up Relief, just East of West Drayton) doesn’t function correctly either from memory- I haven’t played GWE on the slow lines for some time so don’t know if they fixed it but I doubt it.
