The Hannover - Bremen Railway (via Nienburg) is one of the most bustling and important routes in Lower Saxony. It offers a grand scheme of services, and is a lengthy route filled with breath-taking scenery. Filled with freight, S Bahn, RE, IC and ICE services, it will attract your interest no matter what type of services you enjoy. Maximum speed is 160km/h (99m/h) Services: In the suburban regions of Hannover, the S2 runs to Nienburg via Seelze and Wunstorf. It is one of the most important S Bahn lines and one of the most used ones, frequent services take over it with the Br424. In Bremen, a similar Regio S Bahn service RS1 between Bremen and Verden (Aller) is active, sending commuters regularly and taking up a decent chunk of the services in the north of the route. The RE 1 and RE 8 services which both terminate in Hannover Hbf travel along the route, mainly to Norddeich Mole. They take up hourly services and are taken by Br 146.1 (TRAXX) along with 5-6 wagons in the back. They are basically the main services between the two cities and act as a vital connection too. Additional services between Nienburg to Hannover Hbf (eventually Braunschweig Hbf) are also active in the rush hours. (Occasional Br111s appear on this route for special services or in the rush hour when there is a shortage of Br 146.1s) IC and ICE services mainly to Oldenburg also go along the route, with IC2s taking over the former and 8 car ICE 2s taking over the latter. The ICE services do not stop anywhere, but the daily IC services usually stop at Verden (Aller) and Nienburg. They aren’t as frequent and won’t appear much in the route. Freight services are very regular, as in the line, the busy Seelze Marshalling Yard is always active and a good chunk of its services operate to Bremerhaven. Additional freight services between Verden and Nienburg are included for the Hamburg - Minden freight services. Scenery along the route is very beautiful, going through a mix of light forestry and gentle hills, along with suburban pockets of houses. Antique yet beautiful german architecture from the Imperial Era is also found along the route, giving it a unique feeling when you transition from the suburbs to the calm rural areas. If you want a calm route to relax and just drive - this would be the one for you!
