There was no section under the player feedback section so I decided to get the ball rolling here. One of the most anticipated features for console and PC players who use controllers, I couldn't help but feel like the haptic implementation leaves a lot to be desired. I'm still happy that they implemented it, but it has a long ways to go before meeting even TSC standards. I'll go over a quick list of pros/things they did right, and what could be further implemented and improved upon. Pros: - Vibration occurs over junctions - Throttle and door operations have vibrations And that's pretty much it. It's a good start, but it's missing one of the most critical features, which is feeling haptics while driving. At the moment, it feels like rail joints don't exist at all, and it's basically smooth straight track the entire rest of the journey. Even TSC has simulated vibrations along intervals of time. There's probably problems with it syncing with the run sound audio, but I'd much rather have "fake" vibrations than nothing at all. Another missing implementation is vibrations when going through curves. It's like we're on straight track. It could possibly be aliased with the flange/curved track audio where vibration intensity is synced to how loud the flange sounds play. This is a crucial missing feature, and I'm disappointed that it wasn't implemented in any way at all. Some more customization options for when vibrations play would be nice as well. The door and throttle vibrations should be toggles (not really a fan of the door vibrations), and not all under the vibrations umbrella. Just some suggestions that will hopefully come in a future update.
thank you for the feedback - have moved this to the appropriate forum area so others can similarly comment there.
I found I had to adjust the values for switches off (to zero) and really low (< 5) for power handle and notches. They basically felt the same as going over a switch point. Still a good idea I think. Xbox S.
I cannot calibrate or get key the config to work properly on my USB wired controller on the PC with TSW4. It works perfectly on TSW3 I'm trying to match TSW3 controller settings to TSW4 but no success yet.
If you have the Steam version, right click on TS4, manage, then go to controller layout. You should have templates to choose from. I used the same as TSW 3 which is Gamepad and then you should be good to go.
My issue with the haptics is that they all feel the same. The PS5 controller is capable of very fine haptics, but for now it seems that whether you go over a junction, flick a switch, or move the throttle, it's just a simple vibration - the kind of thing you'd feel with a PS4 controller. I'm still glad it's been implemented but, as it is, I've already turned-off haptics for everything but the junctions, so I hope they can be improved. Switches should feel like a quick click, and notches more of a clunk.
My main issue is the control hovering vibrations just feel like they’re there too much and too prominent without turning them down significantly
I’d love to feel a bit of resistance on the triggers when moving the throttle / regulator / brake. Plus more use of the controller internal speaker, and finally the approaching signal colour could be lit on the controller lights, that would be awesome!
Yes sedevan, I am on steam I did right click manage, controller and there was a mismatch I did export or save TSW3 setup and in TSW4 found the TSW3 save or export profile and loaded it into TSW4 and it is working now. Athough when you check in manage - controller it still shows default but it working now which is the main thing. Cheers
I'm enjoying the haptics, instantly disabled the hover vibration, way too much vibration even on PS5. Haptics on PS5 could be improved over time I feel, but on other platforms with the traditional big and small motors I don't see much more that can be done. Why not add a vibration option for when safety systems trigger? That will allow deaf players (or easily distracted players like me) to use safety systems more easily or as a backup when safety system volumes are insanely too low.
Like others I have switched off all haptics except the junction feedback and even that is probably going to be turned off soon. They're really just buzzing sensations and nothing like going over a junction. It's a shame really as the capabilities are so much greater with the PS5
I must say that I really like this feature very much now and won`t miss it again! My first impression was bad, because the intensity was way to strong. But after tuning it down it is brilliant. Especially the feedback at railswitches. Nice to have the haptic feedback at the drivers controls. I wish that in the future there will be more places where haptic feedback appears - like railroad crossings, bridges or randomly on track to simulate vibrations or bumps. Maybe as an addition to the coming advanced suspension simulation?
Thank you so much for this I couldn't get my controler to work never had this problem before. Your the best Thank you
Anyone know how to get safety system sounds coming from the controller? The setting is on max in-game and on the Ps itself but there is no sound.
If you're trying the 801, it has been very quiet even at max volume for some people including myself. Try on the 66, I think that is more prototypical volume levels. Other than that make sure you have controller speaker enabled in PS5 system settings and have the volume turned up. It also won't work through remote play, controller speaker is not supported AFAIK.
Yes, that was stated from the beginning that it required them to remix the audio so it would only be in new locos moving forward. That could potentially change based on feedback or demand, but that is the plan for now.
I ended up turning all the vibrations off except for coupling. On the Xbox controller, the vibration just isn't fine-grained enough to be useful — it's a rumbling feeling that just gets annoying whenever you happen to glance past a control or move a lever, press a switch etc, and there's no difference between acceleration, going over a junction, pressing a button etc. With it set to coupling, that's much more useful — from the cab it's often difficult to see coupling and the feedback when you've hit something is important. Maybe if the Xbox controller gets updated with proper haptics, then it might end up being much more immersive (assuming TSW supports it), but just having your controller constantly rumbling with no real idea of what might have triggered it is just annoying. It's probably one of those things that should have been disabled (at least for Xbox) by default; my first play-through was mostly spent trying to fight with volume options (on ECML) and vibration.
Agreed, with a traditional rumble motors it's not as good as with the Dualsense's haptic motors. Even in Train Sim Classic it feels better using the Dualsense than an Xbox controller. I think overall it's just a more pleasant feeling vibration, and you can fine tune it more. I heard rumours about an updated Xbox controller, hopefully they come out with it.
From my experience, as mentioned above, the vibration just isn't refined enough on Xbox to the point where even after adjusting all the sliders the effects just come off as annoying. So on Xbox I have everything turned off. On the PS5 however its a different story. The vibration intensity and variations are much more refined and I have them tweaked to where I like them and I find really add to the driving experience. Hard to tell if it is how each version was programed or if a natual controller hardware design difference or a combination of both.
Love the track rumble vibration when you go over track joints it feels so realistic like your actually in the train
I really like the Haptic feedback function, the only thing is, it is broken on cane creek it wil vibrate the whole route long… plz fix this DTG
Just wanted to say that the new JustTrains Blackpool - Omskirk route has done a fantastic job regarding the haptics. Not sure if it's on the other included stock since I haven't had a chance to drive the other trains, but the Pacer vibrates every time it hits a rail joint, and you can feel every vibration when that happens. Really immersive experience, especially since you can hear the crisp rail joint sounds when this happen, and it is a fantastic experience for me on PC with my Dualsense controller. Well done, and hopefully Dovetail learns from this because it makes every other route feel bland in comparison.
