    Hello,
there was alread a discussion of the Direct X Version. Will remain on 10.
Unreal Engine will remain on 4.26, no upgrade to 5 so far.
On steam I recognized that the optimal hardware recommendations have been significantly increased.
    • Prozessor: Intel Core i5-11600K @ 3.9 GHz or AMD Ryzen 5 5600X @ 3.7 GHz
    • Memory: 16 GB RAM
    • Grafic: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 or AMD Radeon RX 6800 with 8 GB VRAM or more
That's just the PC bought mid of 2021 and which was brand new on the market at that time.
Normally you will not be happy with a PC that only fullfils the minimum requirements.
    Is that really intended?
    Kind regards.
    Michael

Keep in mind that is for 4K gaming at Ultra.
Most people will not need that.

Matt mentioned in a stream that TSW3 should run very similarly to TSW2. Therefore, if you've played TSW2, similar perfomance is expected (even with the specs being higher).

Matt said the reason why it's high up is it make it more in line with modern hardware. It doesn't mean you need a 3070 to run it, just that it's the most modern one out there.

Indeed. He said that if your current setup runs TSW2, then expect roughly the same performance from TSW3.
(and as rennekton said, they hadn't updated the recommended specs for a while, so did it to coincide with the new release).

"Recommended" can mean anything the publisher wants. It doesn't mean the game won't run perfectly fine with lower specs

Reflections for me with TSW3. I have graphic card RX550 which offer correct performances in TSW2 (full HD screen). New recommandations make me doubt, i know volumetric clouds are typically request many gpu, and what else for other wheather effects...

It is normal that TSW continue to improve graphics for better game/train experience. But in a economic context (inflation and expensive computer components), it is a complex line too follow... The middle way can be offer similar graphics TSW2 experience and offer new optionals effects for gamers whith high level computers...

I'm probably waiting community returns at this point before take migration decision...

    Hello,

I found the information in TSW3 FAQ page.

Usually you would not get some helpfull performance recommendations from the game development company itself, but from performance tests of game magazines. But here I think the problem is that TSW is not important enough - only small business.

So in generell I have to rely on what dovetail games is saying. In generall - all programmes/games - my erperience is: You will not be happy - especially in the future - with a hardware working in the area off minimal requirements.

Of course I aggree to get a good performance and grafic resolution but in order to survife in business older hardware must be supported too (may be the last 4 - 5 years).

I have seen an Unreal 5.0 video showing a UK railway station. I want to have that game experience!

Currently my Intel 11700 processor always has an overall load (all cores/threads) of 50% regardless on the effect setting (low to Ultra) and screen resolution. Setting the screen resolution to HD 1920 x 1080 and highest effect setting high or Ultra (if supported) the graphic card NVIDEA 3070 is at 100% usage. This leads sometimes to short disruptions - overload. Lowering the resolution and settings leads to a lower grafic card usage approx. 50/60 percent.

Inside the locomotive I can have around 60 FPS - more does not seem to be possible. Depending on the degree of the camera position outside the locomotive the FPS rate can decrease to 30-40 FPS. On some routes e.g. Sand Patch Grade a decrease to 15 FPS happens. This is not working any more.

That is my current obersation - finding.

My HD monitor is outdated (8 years old) and is showing some artifacts. Hence I'm considering to replace with a WQHD monitior. An NVIDEA 3070 is basically supporting WQHD with some limitations. I could not get a 3080 last year - no chance. Now I'm a little bit unsure if TSW 2/3 is allowing WQHD based on an NVIDEA 3070.

    Kind regards.
    Michael

  9. I'll be one if the first to comment on the performance of a 3070 @4k upon release.

Also will add the performance of a 1660s at 1080

And for anyone on the lower spectrum I might even see if a 1030 can play tsw3 at all.

As soon as the 40xx series comes ill be testing that one too.

I'd be interested to know how TSW 2/3 runs on a GTX 750ti, which is a pretty old card ( I had one myself about 10 years ago ) and only 8 GB of system Ram. I don't know how an I5-4690 performs. If you can run on medium settings with this set-up, all well and good, though I wouldn't want it myself.

I currently run TSW2 with the following on Ultra and 1080 resolution, with 150% screen percentage (Occasionally 200% although the busier routes like HMA 200% tests it) with good results

    i7-9750H
    GTX1660 ti
    8GB ram

If I get similar performance from TSW3 I'll be happy :)
