Hello all, TrainGeek08 here, and today I'm suggesting the Harrogate Loop line for TSW because it would be nice for a route in Yorkshire set in the modern day and this would be a nice and relaxing run in some aging but well-loved diesel traction courtesy of Northern and LNER Price: Great British Pounds: 29.99 Euros: 34.99 US Dollars: 39.99 Route Map: Stock included in base route: The British Rail Class 170 'Turbostar' in Northern livery (with current logo like Glossop) and not the Arriva one as shown in this picture) And the British Rail Class 800 'Azuma' in LNER livery (with 800104 included and it would spawn similar to how 395012 and 395025 do on SEHS) Training (In Training Center): Class 170 Introduction Class 800 Introduction Scenarios: Harrogate Flyer: (Difficulty - 1) Drive this Azuma from Harrogate to Leeds on an express bound for the capital Knaresborough Turnaround: (Difficulty - 3) Drive this Northern Turbostar from Leeds to Knaresborough (vice York) as the torrential rain from the previous night has created a landslide between Hammerton and Poppleton and the rain is still around this morning so watch your driving style out there... If I may I feel like its criminal not to add a few more sprinters to this route: 155 and 150 especially. And Nevile Hill Depot to be populated. Other than that great suggestion.
Page 3: Stations: York: York railway station is on the East Coast Main Line serving the city of York, North Yorkshire, England. It is 188 miles 40 chains (303.4 km) north of London King's Cross and on the main line it is situated between Doncaster to the south and Thirsk to the north. As of June 2018, the station is operated by London North Eastern Railway. York station is a key junction approximately halfway between London and Edinburgh. It is approximately five miles (eight kilometres) north of the point where the Cross Country and TransPennine Express routes via Leeds join the main line, connecting Scotland and the North East, North West, Midlands and southern England. The junction was historically a major site for rolling stock manufacture, maintenance and repair. Knaresborough: Knaresborough railway station is a Grade II listed station serving the town of Knaresborough in North Yorkshire, England. It is located on the Harrogate Line 16.75 miles (27 km) west of York and is operated by Northern Trains, who provide all passenger train services. Harrogate: Harrogate railway station serves the town of Harrogate in North Yorkshire, England. Located on the Harrogate Line it is 18.25 miles (29 km) north of Leeds. Northern Trains operate the station and provide local passenger train services, with a London North Eastern Railway service to and from London King's Cross running six times per day. Leeds: Leeds railway station (also known as Leeds City railway station) is the mainline railway station serving the city centre of Leeds in West Yorkshire, England. It is the fourth-busiest railway station in the UK outside London (as of March 2020). It is located on New Station Street to the south of City Square, at the foot of Park Row, behind the landmark Queens Hotel. It is one of 20 stations managed by Network Rail. Leeds is an important hub on the British rail network. The station is the terminus of the Leeds branch of the East Coast Main Line (on which London North Eastern Railway provides high speed inter-city services to London King's Cross every half hour from the station) and is an important stop on the Cross Country Route between Scotland, the Midlands and South West England connecting to major cities such as Birmingham, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Derby, Bristol, Exeter, Plymouth and Penzance. There are also regular inter-city services to major destinations throughout Northern England including Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle and Sheffield. It is also the terminus for trains running on the scenic Settle & Carlisle line. Future expansion might link the station to the proposed High Speed 2 network. Leeds is a major hub for local and regional destinations across Yorkshire such as to Harrogate, York, Scarborough, Hull, Doncaster and Sheffield. The station lies at the heart of the West Yorkshire Metro commuter network for West Yorkshire providing services to Bradford, Wakefield, Dewsbury, Huddersfield and Halifax. With over 31 million passenger entries and exits between April 2019 and March 2020, Leeds is the second busiest railway station in the North of England after Manchester Piccadilly and the fourth-busiest railway station in the United Kingdom outside London, after Birmingham New Street, Glasgow Central and Manchester Piccadilly. Places of Interest (POI): National Railway Museum: The National Railway Museum is a museum in York forming part of the Science Museum Group. The museum tells the story of rail transport in Britain and its impact on society. It is the home of the national collection of historically significant railway vehicles such as Mallard, Stirling Single, Duchess of Hamilton and a Japanese bullet train. In addition, the National Railway Museum holds a diverse collection of other objects, from a household recipe book used in George Stephenson's house to film showing a "never-stop railway" developed for the British Empire Exhibition. It has won many awards, including the European Museum of the Year Award in 2001. Knaresborough Castle: Knaresborough Castle is a ruined fortress overlooking the River Nidd in the town of Knaresborough, North Yorkshire, England. Bramhope Tunnel: (Clayton Tunnel's Northern cousin) Bramhope Tunnel is on the Harrogate Line between Horsforth station and the Arthington Viaduct in West Yorkshire, England. Services through the railway tunnel are operated mainly by Northern. The tunnel was constructed during 1845–1849 by the Leeds and Thirsk Railway. It is notable for its 2.138-mile (3.441 km) length and its Grade II listed, crenellated north portal. The deaths of 24 men who were killed during its construction are commemorated in Otley churchyard by a monument that is a replica of the tunnel's north portal. Neville Hill Depot: Neville Hill is a railway train maintenance depot in Osmondthorpe, Leeds, England on the Leeds to Selby Line. The depot is situated 2 miles 14 chains (3.5 km) to the east of Leeds railway station on the north side of the line. The TOPS depot code is NL. I hope you enjoyed this one, put your thoughts below as usual, I've been TrainGeek08 as always, next is the 700 Scenario Pack announcement tomorrow evening so I'll see you then, goodbye
As long as the Sprinters and the Azuma and that HST pack can populate Neville Hill, then I'd be as happy as you'd be
Great suggestion mate, would be a great way to get another sprinter and an 80x in game. A lovely route to do it on as well.
Oh yes mate, I definitely agree, get an Azuma in and get a Turbostar plus a potential 155 and/or 150/1 Sprinter too
If you wanted to make this the true loop then you'd need to include the line from York to Leeds via Church Fenton, Micklefield, Garforth, Garforth East and Crossgates. Also on the loop via Harrogate you have these stations: Burley Park Headingley Horsforth Weeton Pannal Starbeck Cattal Hammerton Poppleton Even though LNER Azumas run to Harrogate, DTG would be unlikely to include them as static stock at Leeds/York or for just for 15 - 20 minutes of driving between Leeds and Harrogate. They'd need to add a section of the ECML to make the model viable. If you set the route before the end of 2019, you could add on the pacer as an extra because they frequently ran the loop to Leeds via Harrogate and back again.
Yes, the line through Cross Gates would be great as well Pacer eh? That would be nice for a layer if JT are making it for their upcoming route (with a repaint of course)
Great suggestion again, particularly for getting a Class 170 turbostar in-game. I don't think the Class 800 should be included with the route, as they only run a handful of (short) services. They would be better off layered in from a hypothetical ECML route should that ever happen. Any other Sprinter or Pacer classes could then feature instead or come as follow on DLCs. We definitely need a few more modern diesel routes, as we only really have GWE and MML representing this scene. Something like the Harrogate loop or the Fife Circle would be my top picks.
Agreed, it would be great to get more modern diesel routes like Fife Circle, Welsh Marches, Harrogate Loop just to name a few in game Sprinters and Pacers are potential options if DTG/third-party developer would prefer not opting to make an Azuma but that's DTG's/the third-party developer's choice on stock really
Excellent Idea overall and If I were you set it in 1982 so that we have a Scenario that requires you to run a Leeds to Harrowgate service to serve the Eurovision 1982 event. Also missing are Northern Rail 150/2 155 156 sprinters 195 CAF Civility that one has a lorry gearbox that is attached to a torque converter like a Honda Group DCT with a Torque Converter attached.
You could do that but I'd rather get a present day Leeds in before you do anything to NTP As a lot of people have said, 150/2s and 155s would have operated this line before the Turbostars took over
Thank you for telling me about that however in real life you can combine a sprinter with a turbostar 170 & 172. https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/what-class-170s-are-compatible-with.166758/ If you have a route with a northern rail 158 amd Harrowgate line the 158 will combine with the Class 170. This is actually a normal practice in Scotland where you combine a 158/170 together. Platform displays need to say services are formed by five carriages meaning a 170/158 combination 170 150/2 combi and lastly a 170/155 combination
Yes, I'm fully aware Sprinters can couple up to Turbostars as ScotRail do that regularly but that could be an option for Northern services but again I'm unsure if Northern do that along the Harrogate Loop Line
This route is what I know as the York circular. The last time I was around there, York had not been electrocuted. I remember going through Marsh lane cutting several times, and Hamilton's safety valves became stuck open at Leeds on one trip. Also the climb up from Knaresborough over the viaduct behind City of Wells. I think it was £8.50
Brilliant suggestion! Honestly surprised I haven't came across this sooner! If I remember right this section of the ECML is fairly scenic. So you have that. Plus, what a way to get the 800 and a 170 in! (We badly need the 800 purly for the diesel motors.) Sprinters are great too! This tics all the boxes for me! (Apart from the Scottish one ) and it even includes the Scottish 800 livery to make up for the fact it's in England. Lol. Only joking.
The Harrogate Loop isn't as scenic as some parts of the ECML I.e. Newcastle to Edinburgh . The 170 is really needed in TSW, the 800 needs added for accurate diesel sounds, so all in all, its a win win! Of course it includes 800104's livery (saying that, may as well add 800106's special livery too)
