A picture of the knaresborough viaduct a picture of the crimple valley viaduct. The harrogate loop is a once massive railway that was hurt by the Dr. Beeching Act in the 60’s as it used to branch out to other places and had other lines coming off it. Today however it has had a major increase in passangers and is now becoming a very busy and profitable line in the north. The harrogate loop has some of the most beautiful scenery like at the knaresborough viaduct, or the crimple valley viaduct which gives an absolutely amazing view of harrogate and knaresborough. The line from knaresborough to york is single track as passanger numbers dwindled in the 80’s as many of the factories had closed reducing the use of the line to only passanger services. Now you also get tourist trains like the union of south africa on the line which looks absolutely stunning on knaresborough viaduct. The line is operated by northern and has class 170’s, 158’s, 155’s, 153’s and 150’s not to mention the special services run by various rail tour operators. The line is a 22 mile run connecting york and leeds together running through the countryside starting from the city of leeds stopping at a few stations including Harrogate and knaresborough before continuing on to york on a single line.
