I've made several friends through various online sources (forums, FB, Twitter and other groups). I met my best friend in a group I ran on FB for mental health. She lives a few hours away. We've been friends for almost 13 years now and have met up several times over the years. Another good friend of mine lives in another country. We met by talking on Twitter 11 years ago and have been friends ever since. We have regular facetime chats and texts. Those 2 friends have helped me through tough times and been there for me, as I have for them. They mean a lot to me more than some of the friends I had locally (and even family).
Online friends are great, important for some. At least for me, someone who is a bit younger, most of my friends have been made online due to the fact I had to move from country to country alot. They have stuck with me for a very long time. Despite all that, and it doesn't have to be said, but remember to always be vigilant online.
i never thought online friends could ever be as valuable as real-life ones. It seems I am mistaken. Will be interesting to hear more stories in this thread!
