For the life of me I cant finish this service in the snow, I arrive 20 minutes late at the first check point and then after a wait of 13 minutes get stuck waiting for the next convoy to pass, once on the go I just cant up the 1.3% ascent up to the summit. Im starting the ascent at maximum speed 120kmh but slow considerably and within 1km of the summit I stall and start rolling backwards. Has anyone completed this and how did you manage it? Wouldnt mind but I cant move on to the final chapter until this is complete grhhhhh
I may have done that. If you have AFB ON like me it didn't work for some reason. It climbed but at 0.2kmph speed. I then turned off AFB and increase the throttle to 60% with sander slowly train gained momentum
Did you manage to complete this (the last service in that journey chapter)? I was running without AFB (but with LZB/PZB) and on the 1.3% climb after the first stop the train slows dramatically and power had to be reduced to prevent wheelslip until the train came to a halt. Trying to start moving again on the gradient, the train would only move at 0.2km/h, even at 100% power.
If I remember correctly, I didn't go above 50-60% throttle, I found once I'd reach maybe 0.3mph, I'd put the throttle to 50% to avoid wheel slip. Sanding does absolutely nothing, I was stuck on this one for a while, and had enough time and experience on it to come to that conclusion imo. Remember the brakes take a while to release as it's freight, so don't expect to start moving instantly after releasing the brakes. It took a lot of patience and trial and error to get through this one, but it's doable.
Wait for the signal to change, on a flat track, before the distant signal on station exit (@ passenger platforms).
Also be careful at the end of the scenario, the stop marker is on the grade too, so if you stop too early, you won't go uphill anymore. It is a hard one. GL
Isn't this the one where people uncoupled a few wagons from the rear of the consist to make the train a bit lighter!?
You have thrown down the gauntlet now, Breb. Will finish my current run on Clinchfield and see if I can skip to this in SKW.
I managed this eventually (thanks to the save feature) and yes I can confirm it is indeed possible to complete without decoupling. Although I still had a 40min wait for a green at the first checkpoint.
Check my two more posts above before you go mad Just wait at the passenger platform. Do not drive up a hill * until the distant signal will change to "greeny".
So I finally completed this - here are my tips As per another thread, wait for three freight trains to pass and a 146-hauled passenger service in the opposite direction. Basically you leave at the time you're expected to be at the siding (23:13). This will result in green lights all the way to the siding 18km away. Power no higher than 50%, otherwise you'll get wheel slip. It will take a while but on level ground or lower gradients the train will eventually start moving once brakes are released Use the electric brake early on the -1.0% and above sections - anything higher than 6-7 will cause slip. It won't hold your speed but will keep the downhill acceleration manageable. Using the air brake means you will likely slow down more than you want, as the brakes come off all the way along the train. Using the electric brake allows you to add power to maintain as much speed as possible on the next climb Don't panic as your speed decays on the uphill (1.2%, 1.3%) sections. On the longest climb my train slowed down to about 50km/h before the gradient eased off and speed started increasing again. You might be tempted to nudge the power up to maintain speed - don't! If you get wheel slip and don't correct it quickly then your service is over, you'll lose too much speed and the train is impossible to start again on that gradient.
I had a devil of a time with this service as well. It was hard to get the train moving at the beginning and when pulling away from the siding that is the first stop but eventually I got it. My main problem was I got a red light about 5km from the end just before switching tracks so I had to stop but then could not get going again once I got the green light. The best I ever got up to was 0.2kph but after trying various things for 20 minutes I could'nt even get that again. I ended up just disconnecting all but one car and finishing the service that way. Very very frustrating, really hope things like this get some attention. DW
I managed to finish this one without disconnecting rolling stock, following the suggestions to delay departures. I delayed 10 minutes at the start and another 10 at the siding so I had green signals all the way. The final stop marker is quite diabolical though, not only can you not get going again if you stop short but the stop marker is right in front of a red signal. So if you overshoot you SPAD. (I thought they weren't placing them so close to red signals anymore?) Even more awesome is that the detection radius on that stop marker seems to be very tight, I stopped once with the front wheels of the loco touching the edge of the marker and it would not count that as a stop. Maybe it should be like arriving at Cheyenne on Sherman Hill where the stop marker is right in front of a signal but you can stop like 30ft short of the marker and it still triggers the stop objective. I only managed a silver on this service though. I didn't see any score penalties for being late. Is this service doable to a gold medal or are the score requirements off for it? DW
I'm really struggling to make Langenschwarz at 23:13. I can do about 60 kN of force with or without sand, but when the first train passes you at that signal by the station, The earliest it lets you depart is around 23:08 which only gives you about 5 minutes to haul ~15km, accelerating from whatever speed you're doing at the time. I see people mentioning to delay by 10 minutes, but then that would definitely make me late? Are people making that stop on time? Is it any coincidence the mission before this is also broken with a solid red light bug?
