Hello I'm hoping someone can help me as I would like to buy train sim but I am having a real difficult time understanding what I need to get I have done lots of research myself to the point I find it overwhelming and posting here as last chance really before I give up and not get this game I should add I have no prior experience with any train sim game and what has caught my attention is the gwr mainline, if I can figure out what I need to buy - is it worth buying for console or pc I know pc has alot more benefits but from my experience with pc / console games - generally find them to be better optimized for console and easier to use So to my main question I would like to buy The gwr mainline Exeter to Paignton and surrounding routes, but also include the gwr trains class 150, 158, class 47 and class 800 and also the XC class 220 as well as any freight trains which are required also I did see a video from dove tail saying it's possible to use a class 166 gwr aswell I am aware the Exeter routes are new and not released just yet - I just don't know how to go about buying the content I would like and what I need for it Is it possible to buy one package where all gwr stuff is bundled together? I hope all of what I written makes sense and would appreciate any advice Thanks for reading this
Hello - DTG Alex here, just wanted to share some thoughts on how you can best go about purchasing TSW6 and more add-ons, and helping link you to some guides where you can read more information too. Firstly, I recommend you taking a look at the Purchasing TSW6 FAQs, which help detail everything you get in the latest version of TSW. Specifically, if you're interested in both the GWR Class 150 and GWR Class 802 locomotives (included with the Riviera Line route), as well as the XC Class 200 Voyager, then you may want to consider the available bundles for TSW6 that include these together. If you'd rather pick up each add-on separately, then waiting until Tuesday, 30th September at 6pm BST will be when all our content will unlock for separate purchasing outside of the bundles. As for the other add-ons you've listed, there are some brilliant community wiki sites to compare which add-ons come with the content: BR Class 158 Wiki - Included with Midland Main Line, Fife Circle Line, or individually with the Scotrail Class 158 Add-ons BR Class 47 Wiki - Included with West Somerset Railway, Northern Trans-Pennine, ECML Diesel Railtour Pack, Blackpool Branches and the West Coast Main Line Preston-Crewe Add-ons. BR Class 166 Wiki - Included with the Great Western Express Add-on. You may find that many of the add-ons above layer/interact with each other, and please also note that, depending on which add-on you choose above, the variants/liveries of the locomotives can vary, so it's best to take a look and decide what you're after. I'd happily welcome any community thoughts who may also be able to recommend the routes you're after to this thread too, so it might be a good idea for you to see if anyone else is willing to jump in and echo their own experiences and thoughts! Hi dtg Alex Thanks for the reply and advice it's appreciated, unfortunately for me it couldn't help me as I had read similar articles before I made my post on this forum It's too confusing to want to buy anything and to be honest the company dovetail doesn't really explain things well for me to understand and I was only interested in buying all gwr content not any german or any other european/us stuff. Unless there is another way which is more straightforward to buy this game with the content, I'm going to have to leave it which is a shame as it looks fantastic just too stressful & problematic to buy it unfortunately
Hi, Can i suggest you download the FREE starter pack for TSW6 on the 30th for Either or both PC and Console. This gives you a few loco's and track to try to see if you like it or not. If you do like it buy the Exeter Paignton Line and Voyager for the GWR. Any other Routes or Loco's you want to buy wait for a sale.
If you are only really interested in the GWR Riviera route, DON'T buy a bundle; you'll end up paying more just to get content you aren't really interested in. Claim the free starter pack, then purchase the Riviera route and XC Voyager (if you want it) separately. The Class 166 and 43 will layer on if you also purchase Great Western Express (and are on PC or Gen 9)
Ok thanks for the replies appreciate it I have a playstation 5 & a pc (specs for pc are ok I think but gpu is weak ?) Specs are Ryzen 5800x3d 32gb ram Gtx 1660 super Thinking it's probably a good idea to buy a better graphics card for this game ? So to clarify just for the GWR stuff I should download the free basic train sim 6 game on steam Then buy Great western express dlc - (think that might be on sale on Steam if it's the correct one?) Then buy the Rivera line dlc & xc voyager separately Is that the best method to do ? Many thanks
On the Steam shop Great western express route is showing for £7.49 on sale but on another steam page it's £24.99 they both look identical - I assume they will work on the new train sim ? Also do you need the standard edition of train sim for these dlc to work ? It's all very confusing Appreciate any help Thanks
So if I buy the one on sale it's says it for train sim 5 - it will definitely work on train sim 6 ? As looking on the steam page the exact same bundle GWR express compatible for train sim 6 is £24.99
Buying an older version of a route usually gives you it for free in later versions. Exceptions include NEC:NY for the original TSW which was not possible to port to TSW2 and later, and special cases where a route has been remade as part of a larger new route, and both versions remain ingame.
No, you do not need the standard version of TSW 6 for the DLC to work. You can get the free starter pack from Steam tomorrow and purchase the DLC. The DLC also works with the free starter pack version.
Just to clarify to the OP, the 158 does NOT come with the Fife line. It doesn't even layer on to it properly yet.
Thanks everyone who has offered advice, it has been helpful and I am starting to understand more, but it's still very confusing and for a new player can be very off putting, so I do really appreciate the help I have now purchased the great western express pack from steam Then I'll download the train sim starter pack tomorrow and buy the Rivera pack & the voyager when available Hopefully this is correct Then I'll just stick with those dlc for now until I get used to what is what and hopefully better understanding and then I can purchase more dlc further down the line If there is anything else I should know or do please let me know Thanks
Your plan is good. Just stick to it for now. I will add something for later, just so you know it. Each route usually has a Dovetail Live article that lists all the layers that can be added to the route. As an example, for the Riviera route this is the DTL article. You can find what layers can be added in most routes (most of the latests ones) just looking for the article about that route and taking a look. Remember, you are good with what you have planed. Great Western Express adds the most noticeable layers to the Riviera line and buying those together is a great starting point. This is just information for later.
Thanks again everyone been really helpful Can I just ask as you mention layers as a few people have mentioned that word - I'm assuming layers means other trains which can be incorporated into a route ? Also I'm probably getting ahead of myself again and trying to run before I can walk but was wondering if it's possible or possibly in the future that the west country dlc can be connected to the Rivera dlc and have a direct route from Penzance to Exeter?
Riviera is a fantastic routes and also the 802 Voyager and even the HST are a pleasure to drive. You will have plenty of traffic on Riviera If you have GWE for HST and 166 and Riviera with its own 802 150 + Voyager dlc and maybe Midland main line for 158. This is my set up as even tough i have every dlc possible in TSW5 I decided to keep TSW6 only with its own routes since I did not want to download every single route again for no benefits than maybe broken mods. You are missing out a few freight trains that come from south eastern high speed + wcml and Tee Valley. And also some vintage rail tours that come from West somerset + Wcml Presto to Carlisle and some ai static steam trains that come from the two steam routes. That is for your info if you want to have everything unlocked in the future, but even with basic it will feel a lively route. Ps. Your Cpu is more than fine, but that video card would need an upgrade in the future to ensure you don't have many Fps dips. Also on pc most of us run the game in DX12 as it provides better performance and cpu usage but also you need a good video card. Still 1660 (Nvidia gtx2060 without ray tracing I think ? ) would still work it's just an advice for the future if you have extra cash
Yes. A layer is a group of timetable services. For example, if you have the Great Western Express DLC it will add all the HST and BR 166 services to Riviera Line. Unfortunately it is not possible to do this at this time, and due to the technical complexity of doing this I don't think it will be done in the future. What we have is route hopping. This is points where you can transfer from one place in a route to the same place in another. Example: You can route hop from Los Angeles Statation in the San Bernardino route to the Los Angeles Station in the Antilope Valley route. You change from one route to the other, but all it does is just load the new route and place you there at the same time of the day. The trains and services are reset exactly the same as if you just loaded into the route on foot.
