Step 1: Click the button in the bottom right of this image: Step 2: Click 'Properties' Step 3: Go to 'Installed Files' and click 'Verify integrity of game files' Step 4: Try opening TSW5 again and let us know if it works.

No problem. However, I am not sure if Steam will back up your progress, since that is stored in Documents>My Games. I haven't used Steam's backup feature, so someone more knowledgeable will have to clarify this.
NEW PROBLEM! The repair only worked once. After switching my PC off and on again, I get the message ‘update failed’ and I can't get into the game.
No, another message indicating only that the update has failed and an invitation to resume, which fails immediately.
What a strange incident. I suspect this is an issue on Steam, rather than Train Sim World, but I have no idea. Glad that it is fixed, though.
