So looking to get either the BR218 or Class 700 . Witch one would I get more usage out ie layers and jobs. Thanks
Don't know anything about the BR218, but personally I love the 700. Got some ok ish runs on SEHS, i.e. could do with more length and a dedicated route, and it is nice to see at PBO too on ECML.
BR 218 layers in multiple german routes, class 700 Is also great on SEHS and will layers also in ECML (only if you are on gen9 console or PC) but only for ECS movements as playable services
Class 700 suffers from lousy audio. Something went wrong with the mix and levels. Inside the cab is very quiet, you can barely hear any traction sound and what you can has an obvious loop. However passing trains will blast your eardrums and make your speakers smoulder. Never sorted. There was also an issue with PIS in the saloons. In addition the primary location of the train is hindered by the timetable being an all stations electric bus service, including that tedious slow drag through the Medway conurbation. You don’t get much of a chance to run the thing at any sort of speed or for an extended period non stop. The 218 is superb in just about every way and does layer in on several routes. The sound thrash is awesome and it is one of the finest loco DLC’s thus far made for TSW.
If you own SEHS, the Class 700 is a must, even if you don't intend to drive it. Adds a lot of traffic to the route between Dartford and Rainham. It also makes Peterborough on ECML busier (mostly as AI with a few morning and evening shunts). Don't know about the other one.
The 700 is underwhelming, only has decent runs between Dartford and Rainham on SEHS, and a few ECS moves on ECML. The sounds aren't the best either. Was very much a release and forget it DLC from DTG.
I would go with the 218, which provides a completely unique driving experience (and is superbly made in every way). The 700 is just like any other Desiro, and not that different from any other British EMU.
