    Hi all,
I need some help. I been trying to knock out journey mode for the Kassel route. I been struggling driving the BR 185 DB on it especially getting it to get going. To give you an example I spent 3 hrs watching the train creep up a hill at 0.2 km/h just to finish a level.

I am stuck on 50244 Ludwigshafen - Hamburg billwerder at this point on the journey, one that has a lot of snow in it. I can’t get the train going and when I do all of a sudden the hud gauge that keeps track of my speed increases speed rapidly like I overdid the engine and there are these red squiggles next to the speed.

Any advice on how to handle this or videos would be greatly appreciated. I been trying to knock out Kassel journey for over a year now and I want to focus on other routes.

I don't play journey mode so i tested it out on service mode in the winter storm preset. I was able to get the train moving. It takes a lot of patience. I played it without afb because that allowed me to have better control with the locomotive and less wheelslip. Setup the locomotive and once the light turns green, release brakes and set the power to around 50% or around 1-2% lower, but don't go higher since it caused me a lot of wheelslip. Then, give it like 2-3 minutes for the consist to actually move. Don't touch anything during that process as in don't touch the throttle. Eventually, the train will get up to speed. make sure you are watching the signals. You shouldn't really have to worry about stopping since you will go slow anyway and the ai train in front of you is going fast. Again, keep the throttle at around 48% since a few km into the route, the gradient changes, meaning 50% will cause wheelslip, but it is still manageable even if the hud shows wheelslip. But if you want zero wheelslip, the limit is around 50%. I am currently running at around 50kmh on the 1% gradient and you can increase the throttle by a little bit (~5%). Then as you continue speeding up, apply little throttle at a time. It takes time but starting out isn't difficult.

Ok will try what you suggested. I may have been more impatient than I should be.

is that what it means when those red squiggly line pop up next to speed, that I have wheelslip? If wheelslip is bad why is it ok to have some?

ok I don’t remember how long, whenever train sim world 3 came out on ps5.

Ideally, you don't want wheelslip, but it can't completely be avoided in certain situations like american freight routes going uphill. So it's important to see what kind of wheelslip you are getting. Is it jumping around like crazy or is your speed staying constant/changing very little.

One example is Sherman Hill in precipitous weather. You will require notch 8 to go up the hill at a constant speed. Your max speed going uphill is 18mph for ethanol trains. Due to poor adhesion, you will get the squiggles, but your speed will stay the same. To get rid of the wheelslip, you would need to go at 20mph. Notching down will only bring the train to a stop. Therefore, wheelslip is tied to speed. Since you can't reach 20mph, your wheels will continue slipping until you reach 20mph, but you can continue on just fine without any problems. You see what I mean?

If you are getting crazy changes in the speedometer, that means you have absolutely zero control over your train which is really bad cuz you end up going nowhere which you explained in your original post.

If you have lots of wheel slip because of the weather, you can apply some sanding to improve traction. Sanding is the top left switch with a knob on it. It is also the x key if you use a USB keyboard. I just tried it on a random stormy run and setting the throttle to about 50% and applying some sand got me moving in a matter of seconds rather than minutes or hours.

Ya I tried this (finally) last night. Was able to get going and doing well at ~50% without much wheelslip until I hit a steep hill. The hill was steep enough that even with sanding I couldn't get enough speed to go over the hill. So I eventually stalled out. I dont know what to do from here to past this route.
