Not sure how much of this is Sony’s fault for being incompetent at an online store front or DTGs fault for the convoluted way add ons work…

Now that I’m back in town and all my old DLC is available for TSW4 I decided to install it. I own most TSW DLC.

So when I check the manage add ons function on PlayStation it shows I have no add ons. I guess because TSW4 is a “new” game I need to individually go to the store and “buy” them all again for $0 before I can actually download them. Ok.

So I do that. And with each add on, it automatically starts a download for ALL versions. Even though the only version of TSW I have installed is TSW4 PS5.

So for example, when I “buy” Oakville again it automatically starts downloading:

Oakville for TSW2 PS4 (not installed)
Oakville for TSW3 PS4 (not installed)
Oakville for TSW3 PS5 (not installed)
Oakville for TSW4 PS4 (not installed)
Oakville for TSW4 PS5 (the one I have installed)

So then for every add on I have 4 or 5 downloads going, so I need to manually go into the queue and delete each unwanted version 1 by 1.

What a mess. I can’t imagine this is workout out well for any tech illiterate people that are probably filling their SSDs with multiple copies of the same DLC for games they don’t even have installed.

To Microsoft’s credit the way it works on Xbox is MUCH BETTER.

As an Xbox/PC guy i hear these kinda stories and it's perplexing how Sony can mess up something so simple- on Xbox it just downloads the right version for your machine. Why do PS4 versions even show up for downoad on PS5?

I play and follow a lot of a games and it's certainly not limited to TSW. Not trying to start any console war nonsense, but's one of the more bizarre design choices we've seen recently.

It’s because PS4 games can be played on the PS5. Not sure why it has to download it automatically though.

Yeah… I mean I guess it does give the freedom for people to play a PS4 version of a game instead of the PS5 version but I can’t think of many good reasons why someone would want to do that, and it’s not user friendly at all.

You don't have to install the tsw 2&3 versions at all, or even have to have them added to your downloads.

On the store page, select add on and pick the one with the smallest file size. That will be the tsw 4 version only.

You'll still have to cancel the ps4 version though. (Or ps5 one if you want the ps4 version)

Yes, a lot of faffing about with all the other versions of the dlc wanting to install to.
Downloading from the in-game store is the way to go though. It gives you right version of the dlc to install.

Dovetail is the one that is making it difficult. 99% of the games released on PS don't have this problem. Why? Because other developers don't force their loyal customers to repurchase the game and redownload their strung along DLC... ever.

Sony has a fine system, when you buy a DLC it asks you what version you want and when you install a game with DLC you already own, Sony lists them when you download the base game. When you click "Free" it thinks you want the DLC installed, and since that licence is linked to other TSW games it downloads those versions as well.

Dovetail are just screwing over their customers twice by making them pay for this process as well. The only PS game I have trouble with downloading is this one.
