Welcome to another suggestion, I'm TrainGeek08 and today I'm suggesting the Hope Valley Line for Train Sim World 4 because the line offers some spectacular scenery once you are out of the main cities on the route (Manchester & Sheffield) Route Information: The Hope Valley line is a trans-pennine railway line in Northern England, linking Manchester with Sheffield. It was completed in 1894. Passenger services on the line are operated by Northern Trains, East Midlands Railway and TransPennine Express, while the quarries around Hope, producing stone and cement, provide a source of freight traffic. From Sheffield, the line follows the Midland Main Line through the south-west of the city to Dore & Totley, where the Hope Valley line branches off to run through the Totley Tunnel, the fourth-longest tunnel in England. It emerges in the Hope Valley area of Derbyshire, where it passes through the stations of Grindleford, Hathersage, Bamford, Hope and Edale before entering the two-mile-long Cowburn Tunnel. From the western portal of the tunnel, the line runs through Chinley, then splits. The northern branch runs via New Mills Central towards Manchester Piccadilly. The southern branch passes through the Disley Tunnel before merging with the Buxton line and then heading to Stockport to join the West Coast Main Line to Manchester. Page 3: (Principal) Stations: Manchester Piccadilly: Manchester Piccadilly is the principal railway station in Manchester, England. Opened as Store Street in 1842, it was renamed Manchester London Road in 1847 and became Manchester Piccadilly in 1960. Located to the south-east of Manchester city centre, it hosts long-distance intercity and cross-country services to national destinations including London, Birmingham, Nottingham, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Bristol, Exeter, Plymouth, Reading, Southampton and Bournemouth; regional services to destinations in Northern England including Liverpool, Leeds, Sheffield, Newcastle and York; and local commuter services around Greater Manchester. It is one of 19 major stations managed by Network Rail. The station has 14 platforms: 12 terminal and two through platforms (numbers 13 and 14). Piccadilly is also a major interchange with the Metrolink light rail system with two tram platforms in its undercroft. (via Stockport) Stockport: Stockport railway station in Stockport, Greater Manchester, England, is 6 miles south-east of Manchester Piccadilly on the West Coast Main Line to London Euston. Hazel Grove: Hazel Grove railway station is a junction on both the Stockport to Buxton and Stockport to Sheffield lines, serving the village of Hazel Grove, Greater Manchester, England. (via Marple) Rose Hill (Marple): Rose Hill Marple railway station is in Marple in the Metropolitan Borough of Stockport, England. The station, which opened in 1869, is the last surviving stop on the former Macclesfield, Bollington and Marple Railway (MB&MR). It is connected via a short branch to the Hope Valley Line. The original line to Macclesfield closed in January 1970, leaving Rose Hill Marple as the terminus of the route. Daily services run to Manchester Piccadilly, via the Hyde loop; there is no service on Sundays. Marple: Marple railway station in Marple, Greater Manchester, England, is on the Hope Valley Line 8.9 miles (14.3 km) south-east of Manchester Piccadilly. The station, opened in 1865 by the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway, was demolished and rebuilt in 1970. It is managed and served by Northern Trains, who provide two trains per hour in each direction. The other station in Marple is Rose Hill Marple, on a spur of the Hope Valley Line which, until 1970, continued towards Macclesfield. New Mills Central: New Mills Central railway station serves the town of New Mills in Derbyshire, England. It is on the Hope Valley Line between Manchester Piccadilly and Sheffield, 12+3⁄4 miles (20.5 km) east of the former. The town is also served by New Mills Newtown station, which is on the Buxton to Stockport and Manchester line. Hope: (the lines' namesake) Hope railway station serves the villages of Hope and Brough in the Derbyshire Peak District of England, 14+3⁄4 miles (23.7 km) west of Sheffield. The station lies between the two villages, around 1 km east of Hope, and also serves Bradwell and Castleton; the latter being a notable tourist spot, famous for its caverns and the gemstone called Blue John. Just west of Hope, the line passes between Win Hill (1523 feet) and Lose Hill (1563 feet). Also, a short distance to the west, is Earle's Sidings; this is the exchange yard for the privately owned and operated 2 miles (3.2 km) long branch line to the Hope Cement factory and quarry sited south of Hope village. Sheffield: Sheffield station (formerly Pond Street and later Sheffield Midland) is a combined railway station and tram stop in Sheffield, England; it is the busiest station in South Yorkshire. Adjacent is Sheffield station/Sheffield Hallam University Sheffield Supertram stop. In 2017–18, the station was the 43rd-busiest in the UK and the 15th-busiest outside London. Points of Interest (POI): Ardwick Depot: The Ardwick train depot is a passenger multiple unit maintenance depot in Ardwick, Greater Manchester. The depot was opened in 2006 for the servicing of Siemens-built Class 185 DMUs, which are used on the TransPennine Express franchise. It was electrified in 2012–13 to allow the servicing of Siemens Class 350/4 EMUs. Longsight Depot: Longsight Electric TMD is an AC electric railway locomotive traction maintenance depot situated in Longsight, Manchester, England. It is one of the largest train depots in the United Kingdom and can hold 179 carriages at any one time. The Peak District: The Peak District is an upland area in England, at the southern end of the Pennines. Mostly in Derbyshire, it extends into Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Staffordshire, West Yorkshire and South Yorkshire and includes the Dark Peak, moorland dominated by gritstone, and the White Peak, a limestone area with valleys and gorges. The Dark Peak forms an arc on the north, east and west sides; the White Peak covers central and southern tracts. The Peak District was the first of the national parks of England and Wales in 1951. The historic Peak District extends beyond the National Park, which excludes major towns, quarries and industrial areas. Nearby Manchester, Stoke-on-Trent, Derby and Sheffield send millions of visitors. Inhabited from the Mesolithic era, it shows evidence of the Neolithic, Bronze and Iron Ages. Settled by the Romans and Anglo-Saxons, it remained largely agricultural; mining arose in the Middle Ages. Richard Arkwight built cotton mills in the Industrial Revolution. As mining declined, quarrying grew. Tourism came with the railways, spurred by the landscape, spa towns and Castleton's show caves. Totley Tunnel: Totley Tunnel is a 6,230-yard (3.5 mi; 5.7 km) tunnel under Totley Moor, on the Hope Valley line between Totley on the outskirts of Sheffield and Grindleford in Derbyshire, England. And our newest addition... Mastery Rewards: Stage 1: 12 Detective-Themed Decals for use in the Livery Editor. Stage 2: Sheffield Supertram trams above Sheffield railway station. I hope you have enjoyed this suggestion, if you have, put your thoughts below on this one, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the Mastery Rewards as well, I've been TrainGeek08 as always, enjoy the rest of your day. and goodbye
Great suggestion and well presented as usual. The 185s are certainly up there as one of my favourite modern DMUs so would be great to have them in game and on a beautiful route too. Brilliant mate!
Bring it on to TSW 4 and this is actually a Just Trains route in TSC therefore they must re-do it in TSW 4. For Just Trains, if they remake it for TSW 4 they must make it like Blackpool Ormskirk via Preston detailed and take time.
Thanks mate, yes it's getting to that time where a 185 is necessary for any modern day route involving TPE
Yeah, I would love JT to do this again for TSW4 On an unrelated caveat, I have suggested two ATS routes in TSC back-to-back and then two JT routes in TSC back-to-back
Great Suggestion! I've been on this route in real life (via stockport) and absolutely love it . And indeed a very good way to get the goat of the desiros ingame (hopefully we ain't restricted to 70mph like real life 185s on the HVL )
Thanks, I think this route would work quite well in TSW4 because of the scenery along this route Hopefully not, but if the 185s are restricted IRL, it would make sense to replicate that in the TSW version too
Don't forget to include Hope cement works as a place of interest as most freight on the HVL comes from there. Also, the EMT 158 could layer here and run at a higher speed than the class 185 (sprinter trains have a higher speed limit for some reason on this line). A re-worked and upgraded class 150 could also layer here for Northern services to New Mills Central.
Yes, Hope Cement Works is very important in the transportation of freight to/from the Peak District The 158 is a playable layer on the route anyway and the re-worked 150 is the 'Potential DLC' for this route
I believe that the reason for the lower speed of the 185s here is due to their weight, which means that in game there wouldn't actually be anything stopping you from going to 90 but you'd just be speeding.
Transpennine Express and A Northern 195!!! dream come true! Sounds like a brilliant route TrainGeek08 ! Great suggestion!
The class 323 layer doesn't have to be AI only, it can be playable at least between Piccadilly and Stockport
Thanks, knowing that JT smashed it in TSC means that if JT take the same amount of development time as Blackpool-Ormskirk via Preston, it would be a great modern era route
Lets see if which one of them arrives later in the Game. for ATS I'm guessing the Fen Line because we don't have a route out of Cambridge.
Can't wait for what ATS can bring to the table and hopefully JT use their expertise in developing Blackpool-Ormskirk to create the Hope Valley Line
Exactly one year and 18 days later, bringing this back into relevance when suggesting a new route for TSW5 seems quite fitting, especially with the announcement of the Manchester Airport Commuter. Personally, I would love it to be "Sprinter-centric" with the 150/1 and 156 being the base DMUs (Go Team Sprinter!) for the route, obviously along with the 195 and 185 being a possible DLC just like WCMLS with their 'Pendo. The fact that both Picc and Stockport are on the line means the possibility of route-hopping with the two other 323 routes! Reiterating JT's experience in developing this for TSC, hopefully we will see a "Bubbles livery" era version of it down the pipeline JT's preview stream for their TSC iteration 2 years (many moons) ago: https://www.youtube.com/live/7Ze1DJ2rgQg?si=Kr2jWQfkKSzt8nfU
