As much as I love Horseshoe curve the route in tsw 2 and to tsw4 is completely HORESECRAP.... the large ethanol train for 64E Chicago to Linden is extremely difficult and 200 percent impossible to complete!!! All the brakes can be 100 percent but it still won't slow down going downhill!!! It starts at 2.2 gradient and then 1.8 for rest of the way .. and everytime I try to get the train within speed it derails!!! I Literally have dynamic brake and automatic brake with train brake at 100 percent!! There are 3 lead and 2 rear locomotives and this SHOULD NOT be an issue! Also for the Gp38 journey 10k Chicago to Allentown [manifest] is impossible because the very start the light stays red!! I've even sat for 1 hr and it never changes!! Dovetail focused on new content then fixing current content..... it's bs ... Horseshoe curve is one of my favorite places and yet DTG makes it unjoyable to play
Here you go, 64E completed! I suspect (as in many other reported cases) the momentum was once again too high at the start of the downhill gradient, which leads to uncontrollable acceleration and ultimately results in a runaway train. Or a lack of knowledge about the dynamic brakes, which lose most of their efficiency below 10mph and above 30mph and therefore become useless with such a heavy weight. Another way to lose control of the train is to use the automatic brakes without bailing off the independent brakes, which causes the dynamic brakes to switch off immediately. During the whole service I have used the dynamic brakes in notch 4-6 and at most 3-4 times in notch 8 plus additional automatic brakes at minimum reduction only. Try to stay between 20-25mph downhill, if you feel confident enough you can aim for 25-30. You should never go over 30, otherwise you might not catch the train and it will run away. Compared to CJP, HSC is pretty easy to master, but this does not mean that HSC does not require a certain knowledge of braking, momentum and acceleration.
I'll keep giving it a try, it happens to me every time I put the dynamic brakes on ahead just before going downhill to control and use automatic braking but even with dynamic on top notch and auto on full it still doesn't slow down. I'll try better to keep the heaviest train from going over 25 down a 2 percent gradient...
I i watched a you tube video on how to take a train down cajon in tsw he showed last part of cresting the grade then setting up dynamics he said to put throttle to idle wait till the RPM go all the way down then put dynamic brake to set up wait 30 second s then go from there he said also he recomeded keeping your train in 13 to 18 mph range i watched how he set things and took notes then i tried it and did decent watching this video really helped me with Cjp HSC and Spg etc when id tackle downhill runs the youtube ch i watched is called BLU Games channel he has lots of how to play routes etc on tsw and other sims
the first time i did a downhill run on HSC i started to loose it going down i put the emergency brakes on as soon as it hit around 35 it stopped then i released the brakes and started down again at first i was either giving it too much air brake or not enough plus i was just learning then thats when i got fustrated and was like im going on you tube to see if any videos on how to properly get you train moving on a grade and working brakes to get down with out running away
Haven't played HSC yet, but I assume it has a banking comm like the other U.S. freight routes. Have you made sure you're controlling the rear locos and they're helping brake, or are they just dead weight that's adding to the problem?
That happend to me a few times i forgot to press the banking com button got in a hurry and wonderd why i stalled a few miles after i left altoona after that that one of the first things i did was make sure banking com is turned on
