I was a discord member now from 28th March 2021, l keep getting messages from DTG to join Discord. On entering it says click on Invite then go to server. Every message continues in the same way click on invite etc.

If it keeps saying that l haven’t joined and am confused as to how l join to stop getting invite messages. Please can DTG Alex DTG Jamie or someone explain as l have previously downloaded the app a few years ago and it’s up to date?

You literally accept the invite to join the server and you’re in. Not sure what process you are following….

How do you get a invite? For years I've shared a account with one of the kids who knows what he was doing. But now I'm on the list for the beta program, I've had to create my own account and I'm in the same boat, not got a clue.

Yes that’s the link that says accept link. Clicking on that it says go to server. I as usual can get into everything like content from BA and Train Simulator Driver and others etc. But l keep getting a DTG invite and then go to server.

    l am following:
    New Dovetail Discord server: https://discord.gg/Db7JFEJgCn

l don’t know what else to do?

It’s basically just a chat room where you can talk to like minded people and where you’re more likely to get a direct response from a developer if they’re online, some (particularly 3rd parties) tend to be more active over there in my experience. And if you allow notifications you can get news quicker than having to load this website.

I presume you have the Discord app installed on your device already?

The link I provided and the one in your post after mine are the same. The image below shows what comes up….albeit where my image says ‘go to server’ yours should say ‘accept invite’.

Either way the OP is not getting the same result as you and I.
I’m not sure what to suggest next so I’ll end my contribution to this thread.

Honestly it sounds to me like you’re in, there’s nothing more to be invited into. If you’re in the server & seeing the content, that’s it.

Still really don’t understand the emphasis on getting people over to Discord. Perhaps one of the CM’s could come on and confirm or deny whether the forum is about to get the chop?

Thank you CK95 it’s taken a while to get this far. Disappointed not to hear from the guys at DTG DTG Alex and DTG Jamie, for an explanation.

They probably just see the success in the TSC server & want their own piece of it. Though I think they’ve missed the point on why people go to that server anyway - for the unofficial official stuff.

I doubt they’ll be any more communicable there than here & splitting the community team over even more spaces seems counter intuitive.

I do follow the official TSW Facebook page with the occasional whimsical post. Also Train Sim World Community FB though best to avoid being overly negative on there. However my primary social media for TSW is right here.

The invite is just a link to direct you to the server. If you can see the blue DTG icon you’re in! The right hand side shows channels available.

Discord is way better than the Forums imo. One example is that sometimes one can get an answer almost instantly where as on the forums it can take a while if at all.
Anyways, I would think it highly unlikely that the forums are about to get the chop just because DTG started their own Discord server!

Has there been any indication that the forum is closing? It would be a very odd thing to do. Discord really isn’t suitable for discussing a game with so many different elements and aspects to it. If you want to (say) have some company while watching a live sporting event, a ‘chat’ like Discord can be good, but it’s impossible to have a proper discussion about a given topic within a game like TSW, because the people who are interested in the same topic all have to happen to be there at the same moment as you. As soon as you leave it, the discussion is lost amongst all the subsequent chat.

There was Alex’s answer in the live stream. Someone asked whether the forum would be remaining open and Alex’s answer was just him gushing about how great Discord is, its easy moderation options for DTG, how many people have already joined and that everyone else should join. He said the forum would be staying supported for now but it was enough of a politician’s answer to give away the real future intentions. It won’t be long before they announce its closure.

Someone should start a petition to keep this forum open.

I really don’t want the forum to close and a glorified chatroom is not a suitable replacement for what we have here on the forum. It’s not perfect but it is the right type of discussion environment for a game like TSW where there are so many topics to discuss. It’s a bit old fashioned, perhaps a bit formal, and that’s why it is better. I won’t be joining Discord so I’ll be out of the loop completely when the forum closes. I don’t want that false excitement of chatting to devs in real time, which seems to be Discord’s only positive selling point. It is a live chat tool after all. I hate real time chat online.

Discord is fine for small group conversations & the other odd community event such as announcements etc - however it’s absolute garbage as a forum replacement. Have any conversation there will be like trying to discuss something on a rollercoaster.

DTG will likely find a forum closure will just result in migration to somewhere akin to RailSim.DE , rather than Discord.

Although I am a huge Discord user (Mostly for stuff unrelated to TS), I do like the forums a lot as well, I tend to read a lot more than I post here. And they have different uses for me despite being quite similar in what they do. On the forums it's super easy to keep up with what is happening, unlike Discord where it is a constant stream of messages and things can be missed super easily, or to add to what was said above you can end up having 3 conversations in the same chat at the same time and that is quite something. But that constant stream of messages is great if you quickly want to talk to people about something or ask a question.
Certainly wouldn't want this to close.

While I’ve joined the discord for DTG, and skyhook (I think??) and might be called Train Sim Community, I find it much harder to use than this forum - which I find to be a fantastic resource. I hope they don’t close it, it’s one of the things that keeps my interest in the game up when I don’t have enough time to play! I don’t really bother with the discords.

Discord is good for some things, but not all things. There are things better suited for the forums here, and things suited for discord. But DTGs discord is still new and isn't set up as well as TSCs discord.

Honestly, I prefer the forum style for most things. Just so much more on forums as a rule and better organized. Having said that, for multi-player Discord is required because it enables you to do what it was DESIGNED for which is chat and use voice in real time with people. So that's important if you want to play a multiplayer game with voice. Not necessary for a single-player game like TSW or TSC.
I think it's another of those obsession with "social media" that is easier to track and "all the other companies are doing it."
Or maybe it's younger kids being "intimidated" by the forum design?
Either way I just don't see the point. It doesn't really cost anything to have it I suppose, and I use Discord so discord is popular.... I just personally don't put Discord with any game I'm not using it to go on an MMO with.
I don't know if there's a risk of them deleting the forum. It does generate a lot of interest (more than discord would), but it's probably also a small amount to run and moderate it, compared to discord being free to set up.
Still i don't think DTG would make such a huge error as to get rid of the forum.
A huge amount of the big spenders I'd wager would not migrate to discord and would be lost... also probably with a large desire to buy more content.

Discord in no way replaces a forum, within a few minutes the subject is lost again and there is no easy way to find people who have had the same issue in the past. You can force the use of threads I think, but it not so easy as a dedicated forum

What community managers probably like is that they can just dip in and answer stuff when they feel like it and happily let everything else scroll on past like they do on live streams.

Not sure if it's just me but it feels like the community managers engage a lot less than they did in the past. I personally would see the removal of the forum as avoiding community feed back. To be fair to DTG they have never blocked negative feedback on the forums, so I hope the forums live on.

Discord is fine to find someone with the same interests when you are bored. Or for asking a quick question when it might be quicker than making a forum post, but it's not good for multiple discussions over a period of time.

if you have questions on discord
then the only way for it to be usefully would be private message to the person
otherwise it would get lost if loads of peoples have questions
i only occasionally join discord but as a news thing it is not as good as a forum
    easier to find messages :)

Hi folks - seen a couple of comments I can support with more clarity here, so just some thoughts:

The new Dovetail Games Discord server link is easiest found with: http://discord.gg/dovetailgames

Why did we make a new Discord?
We created this space because we wanted to grow our community in new ways, and whilst we've not announced anything yet, we'll shortly be talking about brand-new Dovetail Games titles, so we're preparing how we can best support the growth of communities across TSW, TSC, and all our future and upcoming titles. We have some fantastic community groups for TSW/TSC conversations, but these may not necessarily be the best place to grow conversations around these new titles, so we've created a space where we can house everything under one roof.

As stated above, we do also get *alot* of new moderation tools that this forum simply doesn't have, which makes our task of supporting players easier, but fundamentally, allows the space to be much safer for engagement.

If you're interested in being involved in the conversation and community of our titles, I'd recommend checking it out - there are multiple ways you can configure Discord to better suit what you want, if that's a space to talk with other players, get alerts for news or jump into new events we'll be running.

To Answer: "Discord moves too quickly / subject is quickly lost"
For most text channels in Discord, this is a very valid point, especially as multiple conversations can overlap between users very quickly.

That being said, Discord has an in-built forum feature, which we've opened up for new articles, and I will likely continue to integrate more of these across the server for publicly-created threads. These are effectively the same forums you have here, where you can comment on dedicated threads, with specific topics defined by the poster, and follow the conversations you want. As I mentioned above, the benefit here is that you also get auto-moderation and bots helping reduce the amount of spam and content that goes against our ToCs, as well as our moderation team, with admins from across the TSW communities.

    What's happening to the Forums?
We've not got any immediate plans for changes to the forums - our teams constantly review where we engage, and what community spaces we actively support, and as a key goal, we want to make sure that we can best manage and protect players engaging in those places. We're also assessing with internal groups if the recently enacted Online Safety Act laws will have any impact here. If this changes at any point, we'll let you know with an announcement post in advance.

    I hope this helps! :)
