I’ve been switching between TSW5 and TSC a lot lately and not been on here except to lurk! Then I had that eureka moment when I suddenly realised that I need both sims equally. The reason I do is simple; imo TSW is far and away the best and more relaxing at passenger runs, whilst TSC is miles ahead in freight, switching and steam runs. Simples! The graphics between the two aren’t such a big issue as you might expect, as long as you have Railworks Enhancer 2 installed on your TSC. But yes TSW is now almost photographic quality, so much so that on my recent install I started leaving off old routes without mods. I’ve just splashed on a new gaming laptop and transferred both HD’s and all the RAM across to the new one. Stutters and freezes are a thing of the past with 64gb of RAM believe me. So nice to turn all the sliders up. So there you have it, TSC for miles better freight work especially around yards, and the only retro US freight in town bar one, along with steam in all its glory. and TSW for relaxing passenger runs where you are not racing against the clock with 400 points one minute and -1600 the next! What are your thoughts?
Haven’t played TSC. Don’t own a PC however I watch a lot of YouTube videos of people playing it and quite often too. The biggest one up TSC has over TSW is the super large amount of content / routes it has which is really cool. Spoilt for choice with TSC. Obviously the graphics are way better in TSW but they ain’t too bad in TSC neither. Being a TSW player though I’m quite jealous of all the content TSC has vs what TSW has. TSW is growing of course and hopefully it stays that way for a very long time. Also there are quite a lot of bugs in TSW… some of them being pretty annoying such as stuttering.
I think you’ve summed it up nicely. Both have strengths although some of the older TSC content in particular does look quite dated compared to TSW (to be expected).
That is exactly the attraction for me, the content, it’s vast and not just modern either, in fact one handled emu’s are in a minority. I love vintage American content, steam and diesel, and there are lashings if it in TSC.
Thanks! You are right some of the older routes are very dated now and best avoided even in a sale, however stuff from the last decade is mostly very good, with all sliders fully cranked up to max detail and draw distance and especially with RW Enhancer 2 installed.
Both games are really good, but I always find myself on TSC more. Routes on TSW are always cut short, where as on TSC they offer the full length. Being able to drive the full length of the ECML now is a dream come true. Had two do it in 3 parts though as 2-3 hours is kind of my limit on a run now. RW enhancer 2 is very good, but I’d take it a step further with AP mods. Picked up the sky and vegetation mods a couple of months back and that has really made a difference. TSW for me is something I like to play when I don’t have much time. Plus I play it on the PS5 so it’s a lot quicker to start playing, where as on PC it can be a lot of mucking about.
Me too, it’s got more choice of trains, longer routes, more challenging scenarios and more ai stock and more ai traffic. Finally for the heritage and retro fan it’s the best show in town. I’ll checkout those AP mods you mention, thanks for the tip.
