Just been comparing game loading times on my PC and PS5 as thought it would be interesting to compare. My PC takes only a third of the time of the Playstation, but the times seem to be heavily dependent on the amount of DLC installed. Both machines have a lot in my case, but both have fast NVMe gen 4 SSDs. Another thing I noticed was the loading was faster on the PC after the first launch, probably due to data caching. If you like, please post your platform, the loading time from launching the game to the white DTG logo screen, and any other relevant info. PC 1st launch = 35 secs 2nd launch (and consequent launches) = 18 secs PS5 Every launch = 89 secs I am particularly curious as to why the PS5 is so weak in this respect. Apparently it has dedicated hardware which also supposed to boost loading, and in tests by Digital Foundry it consistently beats both PC and Xbox for game loading times. TSW, alas, seems to be the exception. I have personally tested the PS5 against the Xbox Series X in identical scenarios and am unable to explain the relatively poor game performance (fps in TSW2 and 3) on Sony's console which has fairly similar hardware. This performance gap is not seen to this extent in other cross-platform games. The evidence would suggest DTG did not spend that much time optimsing the game for console hardware beyond just getting it running, perhaps Xbox's good fortune is thanks to it being an easier port from PC (DX12)?
I'm on a SATA 3 SSD with only the three base routes installed. Skipping the intro videos and startup notifications, and starting from pressing 'play' in Steam, it takes me about four seconds to reach the main menu. Other specs: Intel i5-12400F 32GB RAM RTX 3060 Ti I don't know if TSW makes caches (and how to delete them if it does) so it could have been affected by that. However, even without a cache the loading times will still be quick. Train Simulator takes at least 30 seconds to load up, possibly more, but then TS is designed to load consists and other things at startup which takes a long time and my install is more than ten times as large as TSW's. Loading times for routes in TS are far more impressive than first startup.
PS5 has always loaded slow for some reason. I have it on XSX where it is almost instant but on PS5 there is a delay. I don’t understand why because it has a blazing fast SSD and I haven’t noticed such a difference on any other game (Or TSW2 for that matter).
Likely DTG haven't optimised for it. While it has a theoretical maximum speed of 22 GB/s it does take some effort to get it to work and I expect DTG have just left it in the default mode which makes it work like any other hard drive - in the same way PS4 games will load slower on a PS5 than the dedicated PS5 version in most cases.
5 seconds for me. Doesn't seem to matter first launch, second launch, etc. OS: Windows 11 22H2 CPU: i7-12700K @ 4.7GHz all core GPU: RTX 3080Ti RAM: DDR4 3600MT/s (timings 18-22-22-40-62-2T) running 128GB total hence the higher command rate Storage: Seagate FireCuda 520 NVMe SSD I do use engine.ini tweaks but I'm not sure that has any impact. I only have LIRR, NEC: Boston - Providence, Harlem line, and NEC: New York - Trenton installed along with the Acela. Not much to be honest.
With all dlc installed on ps5, initial TSW3 startup takes about a minute and a half. I don’t really see this as even moderately negative though? Usually I use the moment to go make a drink, or coffee, or scarf down a sandwich, or do something productive before I kill 3-4 hours on this game that I will never get back lol
It must be related to the Add-On Manager, don't you think? Now, let's be honest: would you rather have fast load times of a few routes, or all routes and whatever time it takes to get ready to play?
It’s not related to add-ons manager. The PS5 version of the game was slow to load up before it was released if you had 64GB of content installed. If anything, the add-ons manager has made this more apparent due to people having even more DLC installed.
In my experience, on ps5 it has gone from bad to worse. In TSW 2 the loading was almost instantaneous if you didn't exceed 64 Gb of add-ons, TSW 3 started out taking just over a minute and now takes a minute and a half. Obviously I like fast loading, but well, if this is the price to pay for the add-on manager I'm happy to accept it, I think the engineers have done a great job.
It’s really weird how it takes so long to load on the PS5. It was the same before and after the add-ons manager was released. On the other hand, Hogwarts Legacy (which is an unreal engine based game) loads almost instantly after the obligatory epilepsy warning.
Initial startup definitely takes longer than 1 minute on my PS4. Not worried about that at all, it’s the case for many games. Just hoping the add-on manager reduces the crazy lag and cooling fan noises in the main menu. There clearly is way too much content active in the background, I remember it being better back when TSW3 was in early access and I only had the few core DLCs installed.
The reason the ps5 takes a long time to load is because there is no optimization. This also shows in the poor performance of the routes. Dtg have game optimisation on the bottom of the road map which has been there for months and will probably never get looked at. I have come from ps5 to xbox series x and the difference is night and day. That's loading the game and the overall smoothnes of the game.
Around 10 secs to load the game and just as long to load a scenario on a pc. Could probably speed it up a bit if I cleared some space on my drive and optimised it. Then I do have 30 routes and various loco dlc's.
To provide another point of view, I also own Trainz 2019; its initial launch screen pops up quickly, but launching the sim itself can easily take a minute or more.
On Xbox Series S with every DLC installed, it's taking 2 minutes and 26 seconds. Still paradise compared to last gen where my loading time was comfortably over 10 minutes.
On series X with most DLCs installed mine loads in about 10 seconds but the DTG logo freezes for about 5 more
PS5 and got all my purchased DLC's on it, So all UK DLC's, all but two German routes and several US DLC's, Takes an age to load up but once it does it's fairly quick at everything.
