So I noticed hauptstrecke rhein ruhr tsw2020 is on sale on xbox and so I was tempted to get it to add to my tsw2 collection. However, I like to have variety amongst my different routes, and from what I've seen alot of the German routes look pretty similar... I have schnellfahrstrecke and main spessart already, and they are pretty different (straight line high speed vs winding scenic route). I don't want to get hrr and find that it is identical to main spessart. Honestly, I'd rather pay a bit more for one of the other German routes that aren't on sale if that provides a different experience. So to cut this long ramble short, if anyone has several/all of the German routes. How different or similar are they? Are they just more of the same, or do they actually provide anything different?
I have all. HRR is all about S-Bahn, you have alot of stations usually relatively close to each other. The trains are completely different, as they are EMUs better suited for the short distance stop and go in comparison to the 442 (in my opinion anyways). Since you have main Spessart you also get access to freight and Dostos. The route itself is mostly urban which differs to MSB with mostly forest. You have alot of rails next to each other on the majority of the route instead of just the two lines. These tracks cross each other with small bridges and tunnels very often. RSN is more about freight services but has Regional passenger services available. The route has more tunnels and an industrial setting, though overall I would still say it is the closest to MSB. If you have MSB and like passenger services HRR is a great choice, the route gets full of trains. RRO is not yet released in TSW2 yet, but that route would be the perfect compromise between all others. It has the S Bahn services, Regional Bahn from Main Spessart and freight. Look out for that one when it gets into TSW2, I really like it. RT has the amazing Leipzig City Tunnel but apart from that is not that different to MSB. But with what you have and what you want I would get HRR for sure.
Hey thanks for your detailed response. Just what I needed to know. It looks like hrr is just what I'm looking for. I like to do the odd freight service now and then, but I do tend to lean towards the passenger side of things, and it seems different enough compared to the routes I have to be worth the investment. I'm gonna check out a few more YouTube videos of the route but I think you may have just made dtg another 17 odd quid. Perhaps you should ask for commission on the sale ;p
Glad I could help! Also great about HRR is that overall it has a high speed limit. Even between closer stations you will be accelerating to 120 or up to 160 km/h. Which also tests your breaking abilities when you want to stay on time (and these two trains are breaking like mad). Now if you are not from Germany and don't know the trains the following won't mean much to you, but let me tell you that the sounds of both trains are absolutely spot on.
HRR and RSN are must have German routes. They are different enough from the others you have and although you say you are more into passenger services, like myself, there is nothing better than driving the 155 loco along the RSN route for the feeling that you are really driving a train. Of course that means you need the BR155 DLC add-on too. It’s different to every other train in TSW and is pure joy. It can also be driven on MSB, HRR and RRO. RSN also gives you the BR143 loco, another older train that is different again in the way it’s driven. That also becomes available to drive on most German routes too.
also just wanted to add thanks for your descriptions i really enjoy the german routes but get bored doing limited stops so may have a look at getting HRR also does this add any more routes to the Kohln route stupid question but couldn't remember
They are actually, surprisingly different and unique, can't talk for HRR since I literally just bought it but SKA is a lot more focused on High Speed, high distance running. RSN is more scenic but a lot slower (avg speed is like 80) with stations reasonably spaced between one another. RT is a bit of a great mix of high-speed running with stations relatively close togheter, mediums speed sections a bit of a subway like section. MSB is medium speed (about 100/120 avg speed) with stations relatively close to each other and very scenic as well
