How To Add Seasonal Textures To Trees?

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by cityrail-rulez, Nov 10, 2023.

  1. Is it done in Blender or the Blueprint editor? Or worse case "Scripted" using a Lua file
    ?

I've had a look at the developer examples and it's not within the blueprint for the example tree, I checked out the model in Blender/3ds Max and there's nothing to suggest how to setup the seasonal textures! How??

I've converted Australian trees models from MSTS, by David Rowe with his permission! And I do have seasonal textures and I'd like to utilise using the seasonal textures. Is it setup via the Blender using certain naming convention or within the materials or is it setup by what blueprint? Or via a Lua script?..

It's much easier than you think.

Take your tree textures, colour them autumn style, export them.

For example you have a tree using the texture "Tree_01.TgPcDx". Edit the texture and save it as "Tree_01_au.TgPcDx".
For winter it would be "Tree_01_wi.TgPcDx". TSC does the rest and will automatically apply them depending on the season choice.

So that tree would require these files to be complete:

    Tree_01.bin
    Tree_01.GeoPcDx
    Tree_01.TgPcDx
    Tree_01_au.TgPcDx
    Tree_01_sp.TgPcDx
    Tree_01_wi.TgPcDx

  5. Makes perfect sense :) I was looking at the _au, _sp and _wi code at the end of the developer example tree textures and I had a fair idea what they all meant just thought they had to be either in the tree blueprint or in some sort of lua script or had to be added to a material slot in Blender/3ds Max!

Never thought it was that easy :D Really appreciate your help :D

I think though for them to work, they have to be present when you export them from blueprint editor (seasonal textures), I know in the past winter textures have "not worked" because of this (not always though)

  8. Yes, the seasonal textures ending with "_au, _sp and _ wi" must be within the same folder as the default textures of the tree models! This also applies to rolling stock/locomotives/track/roads and other scenery model textures such as buildings and more. ;)

The entire idea is your default texture is your summer texture in-game :) It'll look interesting having snow on a locomotive or rolling stock.
