Nice list honestly. It has the right things that's going for to make their suggestion look good.

    Oh thank GOD.

Someone actually made this - thanks a load.

    Going to add something:
Looking at other people's suggestions is a good way to learn proper formatting: I learnt and adapted my format from TrainGeek08 and went from there - like if you look at my old suggestions - YIKE older me was a sh**head. So yeah looking at people's suggestions can help.

Yes, I agree that the above point does help, even I get feedback from time to time from others that helps to improve my layout and I'm extremely thankful to everybody who has done that on my countless suggestions on here :)

Its something really good about forums - aslong as your not being an active nuisance everyone is so friendly here and often gives feedback and ideas on suggestion allowing suggestions. So yeah always a lovely time making suggestions.

Good Guide here, yes think of why it makes it a good route and its history, time period set as well is good one so we know which era is best for that route.

Totally agree with Jamie above, it needs important information like route, stock, time period and why you think DTG/other third-party developer should make that route :)

I personally add extras that DTG/other third-party developers could use as reference when developing that route i.e. scenarios, POI on the route etc. ;)

    • Name your topic "suggestion", "what I'd like to see", or anything else that doesn't tell us what exactly you are suggesting.

    • Use your topic title to describe what you're suggesting.

I don't fully agree with this one. Although it's unreasonable to expect a wide selection of new trains to be added to the game, it can help to show the wide selection of possibilities IMO.

Yes please. I think suggestions with photos do attract more upvotes too. Just assume the person reading your suggestion isn't familiar with the route and trains you're suggesting. Showing them some photos helps them painting a picture of what to expect, and may lead them to liking your suggestion. It's quite hard to form an opinion of something when you have no clue what it's actually about.

EDIT: There might also be cab-view videos available on YouTube. Also very useful to give your potential supporters an idea what a route looks like. A picture says more than thousand words, but a video says more than a thousand pictures.

Good list. This is a bad suggestion:

Hello DTG add the West Coast Mainline London - Glasgow Central via Milton Keynes Birmingham Crewe Wigan Carslile. Add the class 66 70 220 221 170 390 385 158 and 87 Caledonian sleeper. This route would be fun to use.

Also it was a bit needed after seeing this post on Facebook, alot of people would make suggestions similar on how they comment on Facebook posts.

They've been tonnes. Some are more obscure then others. If it wasn't 10 after being awake since 3 I'd explain but I'm about to turn off and hit the hay - if you want a detailed explanation I'll explain in the morning unless someone wants to hop in?

Personally, from some suggestions I've read there is sometimes the occasional issue of someone making a duplicate version of their suggestion or making it into spam which is annoying. Also as some advice to anyone wanting to make a suggestion don't make it personal with people on this forum when you or they don't agree what's been said. As I've seen whole suggestions locked or thrown into off topic so as a tip don't forget the purpose of your suggestion.

Also consider the LAMP process. You can see this on my Google docs TSW 3 suggestion templates

That's what you should be doing using my template however since if it's a licensed operator route in the game you skip LAMP Process. if operator not in the game use LAMP process.

Okay woken up so let me explain:
Bakerloo Line: London Underground suggested a lot

Sherman Hill: Loads of US freight suggestions and it's one of the best selling for TSC

IOW2022: It was suggested a lot on the rivet forums

Glossop line: Guarding was constantly suggested and its a really good route to test it out as has been confirmed.

If there are others please do name.

That's the point being made in the OP, people sometimes write suggestions like that and it looks quite bland so that goes into the 'HOW NOT TO MAKE A SUGGESTION' section :), so that is the point lord everything is making ;)

Whereas suggestions made by all the good suggestion makers on here are properly formatted and will most likely get attention from developers :)

Not really police when we're simply trying to stop horrendous suggestions from propping up.

To qoute one of my favourite musicals: [EDIT - Jan - Language]. Seems very apparent when it comes to suggestions (also irrelevant but does anyone know why DTG bans swearing - given you have to be >16 it seems a little intresting but oh well)

I think the MML was also from a forum suggestion - albeit the suggestion asked to go to Sheffield

With the added irony they are spamming in in a thread about the protocols of how to add a suggestion.

You make some good points. The quality of suggestions has been hit and miss ever since I joined these forums, and as of recent has been more miss than hit. I'm not trying to say everyone should pour immense amounts of effort into one suggestion, even though I'm more than guilty of that myself, but I'd like to see at least a bit more information than the route name and that a player wants that route or train.

I think it also depends on what you think suggestions are for. I've always seen them as a way of voicing ideas, and explaining their advantages (and sometimes also weaker points), and reasons why I'd like to see them to not only DTG but also other players. I see them as a way to make your point, and get it across to as many people as possible, trying to gather support in that way. One can however also see this section of the forums as an idea bin, only for DTG to read and inventarise how many people want route/train x. However, as these are forums and not a suggestion box, I think suggestions should provide some base for discussion, and thus some more information and arguments in favour of route/train x.

This is pretty much how I think about it also. DTG isn't likely to go to the trouble and expense of developing a route based on one person liking it. To me, the point of a suggestion is to try to sell the masses on it, to the tune of enough people expressing support that DTG might start to consider whether it might be worthwhile.

There are also unknown factors like the exact licenses DTG has and etc. that can torpedo a perfectly good suggestion out of the gate. For that reason, the best way IMO to approach making a suggestion is to enjoy the process itself, the essay creation and learning more about your route.

    This ^^.

It's not up to us to decide what others can suggest. Considering DTG doesn't seem to have an idea bin, this suggestion forum is the best place to bin ideas. A discussion recently popped up in a topic with a guy suggesting a specific country, but no specific route or train. Several guys replied that the suggestion needs to be more specific, but I think his generic suggestion is valid. Someone wishing for something can provide useful feedback to DTG and its third party developers about knowing what kind of demand there is, no matter how generic the suggestion is. It's not up to us to decide that every suggestion needs to be thinned down to a specific route or train. If I wanted to suggest DTG to venture into a new country, without having a specific country in mind (which wouldn't be far from the truth), it should be totally fine for me to post that suggestion here in this suggestions forum.

well in the stream it said they chose MML and then looked at suggestions to see what trains to include. where the route would be is quite biased however because as he said Derby is where he lives or near to it anyway

Yeah, I didn't phrase my original comment clearly. I personally do favour suggestions that provide a basis for discussions, thus I structure my suggestions with that aim. I however do not think others should follow that. These forums have the main purpose of being an idea bin, and a place to refer people who suggest things in stream chats to. Having some guidelines to help people wanting to suggest something find a place to start is a good idea IMO, but I'd be heavily against strict rules.

All for it. New members should finally have an idea of the unspoken etiquette in making a considered suggestion. Not doing & showing research displays you don't really care about your own suggestion enough to articulate it here, frankly. Standards matter. Even if a good one doesn't really meet LAMP guidelines, it's still interesting, and we might learn something new along the way.

Don't worry, almost every not so well thought out suggestion has a link here, so hope is not lost yet.

Whether or not they actually click the link though is a different matter.
