I am currently setting up the cargo services towards Aschaffenburg Hafen for my MSB 2024 timetable. I would like to use the container terminal to load/unload containers. Before I dig into it myself: does anyone know if it's possible to load/unload containers in game, and, if so, where I should look for pointers? Just assigning a cargo class in a load/unload instruction doesn't seem to change anything in game. Thanks a lot!
No idea. Where/how we can load/unload cargo is a question I've had at the back of my mind for a while but haven't looked into because it hasn't become relevant for me yet. Sorry :')
Thanks for letting me know A lot of cargo is invisible and the weight of it seems to correctly (dis)appear when (un)loading, but containers or logs is another tale. I've now looked into Maintalbahn shunting services but those are also just shunting around without any (un)loading.
You can load/unload certain cargo in game. But only at specific points on the map. Tees Valley Line for example has a coal loader and unloader. Peak Forest has a Limestone Loader. Great Western Express has a Aggregate unloader. As far as I'm aware, if there isn't a specific load/unload point on the map (platforms are the load/unload point for passengers for example, which count as cargo) you can't do it. You can unload/load inside a portal however, just not actually on the map without a specific point.
I don't think I've seen at any point a shipping container mechanic being used in the game, especially with the SGGMRSS. Are you referring to something akinned to a gantry crane lifting it off the freight wagon?
Thank you for this confirmation. That would be the best case scenario (there are animated container cranes at Aschaffenburg Hafen), but the containers just (dis)appearing would have been nice enough. I understand however that this probably isn't possible. Thank you for your replies!
Honestly I don't think it's a big deal since container trains tend to carry loads in both directions anyway. Unless a player spawns on foot and watches the wagons for several hours, a train that just stays loaded and a train that got unloaded and then reloaded will look exactly the same to them. Maybe put a partially loaded static train in the loading area to support the illusion further. Actually, some of your player trains could also be partially loaded - I don't think we've ever seen that in TSW, even though it's pretty common in real life.
Nice. Am I right in assuming you have to set these up as a special formation because you can't control which wagons do and don't get loaded when using a load/unload instruction in the vault?
Yes indeed, you create a custom formation that consists of loaded and unloaded wagons and mix these together. Another option is to use default formations and couple these in the vault before dropping them off on the map, but I think just adding a custom formation is cleaner. Only downside is that the double sggmrss wagons can't be partially loaded this way AFAIK, but it 's nice enough
Looks great! I think they tend to avoid having half wagons loaded in real life anyway, so that's no big deal either. Have you looked into the different cargo classes? I'm wondering if it's possible to get a mix of branded and unbranded containers on the Sggmrss... I think some US wagons have it. Or maybe an all-pink train?
