  1. As the title says, how to open a model in the blueprint editor preview window? I don't even see such option available the 'green arrow' is always disabled!

You don't open a model in the preview editor. You open a blueprint in there which contains a model. You have to open the engine/wagon/scenery blueprint to get the preview button activated. Pro tip: be careful with this thing, it can scrap your blueprint.

For a fast check of model, textures, etc. and for prevent of original blueprint damage just make a simple scenery blueprint with your model put in and then preview it in Preview Shaper. That´s how I do it even with locos. All the rest is then set in original blueprint later.

  5. Thanks for the heads up :) I only needed to open a new locomotive to test the animation, I've got everything right just not correctly animating in the sim due to a control being wrong. I'm still learning that part..

It is also possible to use animated scenery blueprint for checks, not just classic scenery blueprint. This way you can incorporate your animations as you do in your original engine blueprint and run them in Preview Shaper. I do it all the time when making locos.
