So I booted up GWE to test out the improved HST physics that came with the update, but I can't help but notice that all the HST sets in timetable mode only have six carriages now. I've tried nearly ten individual services now, and both the player and AI controlled HSTs are like this. I don't think this affects scenarios though, when I started the "West World" scenario the HST was seven coaches long. The AI HST that spawns next to it is actually eight coaches which is what it should be. I get this isn't necessarily unplayable, but it certainly rubs me the wrong way. These trains NEVER ran as six coach sets in real life on the Great Western mainline (I live near Cardiff and used to travel on them quite frequently, so I'd know), eight coaches were the norm, and occasionally there were seven car sets. I never remember seeing six car sets. I haven't driven on GWE in a while, has it been like this for a while?
I think the work around still works in TSW2 where you go into a journey mode service then quit back to the main menu. You then should have 8 coach HSTs in timetable mode and extra 166 services aswell.
You’ll have to repeat that process every time you load the game. It’s not a permanent solution if the train is missing a coach.
Yes, that's the reason for the shorter HSTs and fewer services, though I've personally not had any issues when they've been activated.
The full timetable for GWE on consoles has been reduced, whereas PC players get the full services. Hopefully once the layers problem for HMA is resolved with memory optimisations, we can enjoy the whole thing.
Yeah that was the official word. The fact I didn't notice any performance issues when doing the "work around trick" to get the extra services makes me wonder what actual performance issues came up to make them cut the HST car size. I'm sure there are performance issues but I couldn't see any.
It could be as small as the game starts running at 28 or 29fps instead of 30fps. I don't play on console so don't know what it performs like normally. Reducing the frame rate by 1 or 2 fps may not be noticable, but is technically a performance hit and therefore Adam and his team can't do it. It could be a memory or stability issue on one specific revision of a console?
I play on a standard PS4 and to be fair GWE runs incredibly well, much better than it used to. It is probably around 50, but I don't know. And this is with full eight car sets.
